Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Kevin Kipkemoi @wale_thedancer

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I’m Kevin, a dancer from Nairobi, Kenya. I love dancing and have been dancing for close to 6 years now despite the various challenges that are thrown my way such as being arrested and confiscation of equipment while trying to shoot dance videos in Nairobi. Also dancing isn’t that highly regarded here but it is my life’s calling, it’s what gives me purpose, so I kept pushing. When I realised I could promote my craft on social media I didn’t waste any time and got right on it and began posting videos on youtube then instagram .

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I mostly post dance videos and dance related content.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

Well my surname is quite a mouthful “Waliaula” so my friends shortened it to “Wale” which became my stage name and in turn, turned into my instagram name  wale_thedancer.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

Well I use picsart mainly to edit my photos. And Videoshow to edit videos.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

Well @nonstop12 @bluprint01 @itz_klick are my main inspirations in terms of content they post and creativity.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Well I think instagrammers should try support other instagrammers and encourage each other to post more quality content than turning it into a competition of who has more followers.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

Well my favourite part is getting to interact with a lot of people who I wouldn’t have gotten to the chance to interact with in the first place giving me the chance to work with other creatives which is usually a mind opening experience. Also when people tell me that they really enjoyed my dance video or  it made their day; gives me a purpose and makes dance have meaning to me at least.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

To maintain authenticity, you first need to have your own ‘style’. Nothing is new to this world but you can have your own way of presenting it that makes it unique and appear authentic.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Originality is important because it will keep people interested in what you post . Everybody is attracted to quality so quality plus originality will ensure that people are glued to the content you post.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

What I like best about patnering with brands is that it is of mutual benefit, both our contents are being promoted and also allows you to work with other creative minds which can broaden your horizons.
