Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Kate Taylor @_onetakekate

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I’m a film and lifestyle blogger from Auckland, New Zealand running my website onetakekate.com and all the social media platforms associated with that. I’m also a social media community manager for some of New Zealand’s biggest brands, thanks to my work with innovative agency Socialites. So now my day is spent, writing, organising content and administration for onetakekate.com, attending media screnings and premieres for films as they are released into NZ cinemas and also working for Socialities. I’m a married vegetarian Hufflepuff house member, at the constant whim of my dog and two cats.

I started out in the media biz by working for Shock Records in Melbourne for a time in the early 2000s (remember CDs…) before they became Shock Entertainment group and diversified into DVD. Moving back to New Zealand in 2004, I worked at arguably New Zealand’s most renown record store – Queen Street’s Real Groovy Records. From there I did time with Border Music an independent record distribution label; Satellite Media which is a media activations, web and TV content producers; Mighty Ape.co.nz which is New Zealand’s largest online retailer, Flossie.com a cool health and beauty app start-up, nzgirl.co.nz a blog web magazine.

Previously, I used to write music album and live reviews for Groove Guide and Rip It Up here in New Zealand. I started blogging originally as a place to put all my physical magazine clippings – online. As time went on and I learned more about the digital space I realised I loved it and could see I wanted to build a career melding writing, film and social media + digital scapes.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

Film. I post first reaction film reviews, as soon as I’ve walked out of the theatre, on new release films in NZ cinemas.

I also like to post regular lifestyle stuff, what I’m eating, wearing, listening too, doing

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

When I created onetakekate.com I knew that I would need to have presence on every social media platform in order to maintain a reputable and recognised space digitally.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

Seriously, Instagram and Layout and that’s it

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I love the following Instagrammers – they’re great NZ based bloggers and they’re also my friends:

Hannah Rogers at – themoderngirl

and

Meagan Kerr at – thisismeagankerr

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Stranger Things on Netflix…damn I love that show

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

Trying new things and enjoying myself and then later spotting that someone I know or follow has jumped on and tried something I mentioned. That’s always cool to see people being interested in something you’ve shared.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Authenticity is key. I like to be as transparent as possible and in doing that, find no problems in maintaining authenticity.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

It’s hugely important and is your number one concern when working as an influencer. We’re very savvy nowadays as to what’s an influencer or sponsored campaign or post. You’ve got to be uniquely you, enjoying and trialling the product or item.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

The chance to connect and work on large scale campaigns, being part of the fabric that is being woven by the brand to tell that service or product’s story
