1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?
I’m a twenty-something in Boston, MA, getting my MA in English literature, working part-time, and blogging and writing. I also have multiple chronic illnesses, work as an advocate for arthritis patients in particular, and write books when I can. I’m a giant nerd with a giant dog (and a small one) and a love for crime shows and makeup.
2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?
I post a combination of pictures of my pets, stories of living with chronic illnesses, and snapshots of my grad school journey. I’m interested in living a life as great as possible even with everything life throws at me. Sometimes this includes exploring with makeup, and sometimes it means reading a wide variety of books.
3) How did your Instagram name come about?
I have a lifestyle blog called Kate the (Almost) Great about my life, and my Instagram is a part of that!
4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!
I use Aviary to edit my photos. I don’t use filters, but I play with the lighting. I’ll increase the brightness or the exposure, as well as the contrast. Sometimes I’ll also increase saturation and highlights.
5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?
I really like accordingtokenz, coffeeproseprettyclothes, and brianamorganbooks. accordingtokenz inspires me the most!
6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?
I think other Instagrammers really need to try mixing up what they post. Yes, posting about one or two main subjects can be great, but what makes me most interested is a variety. I like pretty pictures, but I also like a story.
7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?
My favorite part about being an influencer is honestly meeting new people! I’ve “met” so many great people through blogging and Instagram, some of whom I call true friends.
8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?
Don’t expect people to work for free! This is easily the most annoying thing. My exposure is valuable, and I know you know it, so don’t expect me to be thrilled to do your work for you for free.
9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?
I advise people to be themselves. Showcase things that are real and true, as well as pretty. Don’t let “aesthetic” become more important than authenticity.
10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?
I like being able to showcase new products and events to my readers. It’s really special to have the opportunity.
