Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Kate @housewhyfe

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I am a former professional drag queen photographer who now makes her living creating beautiful social media content for my own and various international brands. I grew up on a small gulf island off the coast of British Columbia and now live in Vancouver with my husband and our two small dogs.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I’m that girl who has to get the perfect photo of your avocado toast before I let you have a bite. I mostly post drool worthy images of the creations I come up with in my kitchen but I mix it up a bit with cute puppy pics!

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

I absolutely love experimenting in the kitchen, am I’m recently married and people always used to joke about what a great housewife I am and my married name is Whyte so it’s a combination of those two things.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I retouch my photos in Photoshop and Lightroom. I generally make sure the colours pop and desaturate the backgrounds so they are consistently neutral.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I love @alphafoodie – her use of colours and ingredients constantly inspire me to be creative.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

When you’re shooting food – shoot in natural, indirect sunlight for the most beautiful, appetizing colours.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

I love getting to know and being inspired by followers. I think it makes the world so much smaller when you can share cooking secrets with strangers in different continents!

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Engage with your followers – just in the past few days, IG has released a new feature that allows you to like individual comments, so even if the comment doesn’t warrant a full response, the commenter will get a notification that they have received a like and therefore been noticed.

Be authentic but aspirational – define your brand’s key target customer and give them a name and a personality. Spend some time getting to know that “person” and determining their aesthetic and voice and make sure that this comes across in each post.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Social media is surpassing traditional media and having quality content that is sharable is essential to gaining new followers and customers. Leveraging user generated content is also a wonderful way to engage with your community and help followers feel like they are participating in your brand.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I think it’s win/win. Through Instagram, I’ve discovered brands that I never would have otherwise and while being an influencer can be expensive, partnering with a brand is a great way to keep costs down while provided quality content for yourself and the company you are featuring. Social media is all about cross pollination.
