Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Julie Storm @julie_storm

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

My name is Julie Storm, I come from Norway but currently, live in London where I love my life more than ever! I moved there two years ago and it became the biggest turning point in my life. I study Marketing at Westminster Business School, as well as trying to start my own Lingerie Company(My Storm Lingerie). I have no clue of what I am doing, but the most important thing I’ve learned after moving to London is that I have to try if I want to succeed. If you do not go after what you want, you’ll never have it. If you do not ask, the answer will always be no. If you do not step forward, you will always be in the same place.

And truth is, I have no fucking clue and I am equally baffled every time I read one of these types of emails because again, I have no idea what the hell I am doing.

Honestly I was so tired of the days just passing by without even noticing and at the same time SO FED UP with all of the negativity in my life. So one day I decided that I was just going to go for it. First I made a Pro/Con list of why I should or should not start my own lingerie company. When I was done I was left with only the reasons why I should absolutely not, under any freaking circumstance start my own company. I could not find one “valid or logic” reason I SHOULD do it, other than the fact that I like unicorns. So that was it. I was left with no other choice than to announce to everyone that I was now starting a business. I just turned 22, I have one year left of my marketing degree, debt sooooo far up my butt and with no drawing skills or any kind of knowledge or idea of how I am actually going to do this. OR what the hell I NEED to do for that matter. Amaze-balls right? Sounds like a great place to start, don’t you agree?

So here I am, a few months later. A website partially up and running, samples from the first collection in-the-making, second collection is being drawn as we speak And best of all, for some weird reason I have a very positive outlook on my future, regardless if this goes straight to hell or not 🙂

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

At this point, my topic of interest is, as cliche as it sounds, being happy and enjoying every day. I have had a very turbulent and challenging few years before I moved, and during that time I was always afraid of what other people would say about me. A real people pleaser if you will, just not the good kind. But I do try my best to let my own positive and happy outlook on life shine through my posts, even if its still a coffee shot, and just the joy with ordinary and everyday things. But I would have to say that I do post a lot of food, coffee etc. I am a bit all over the place, but I enjoy it and it seems to work for me.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

My instagram name is plain and simple my own name. Julie_Storm

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

To edit photos, I primarily use Airbrush and Relight. I love those two, but I also occasionally use PS express and Color POP. I use them all in turn to enhance, relight and just touch up on all the best features I want to show off in a photo.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I spend a lot of time on Instagram just browsing. I find inspiration from so many different accounts, but at this given point I am keeping an eye on @samblacky @saltywhisper @annijor and @theminimaleanimale. I love their pictures and the vibes they send. Its diversity, magic, sex, romance, happiness, freedom and just adventure.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

I am currently being sponsored by @skinnycoffeeclub. I LOVE my coffee and can’t start my day without. I am very sceptical about products like these, where all the glam is promised, but I decided to give it a try. And man I am happy I did. It keeps me energised for so much longer, my skin is better and I am no longer bloated! I can’t compliment them enough to be honest.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

Whether or not I am an influencer, I love being able to help and interact with people. I do my best to answer all my email and DMs on Instagram, just to show my appreciation. Some I keep in contact with, while others are just a “one time thing”. One of my strongest features has always been that I am a people person, and often most people are not afraid to open up to me. So regardless if it is a close friend or a perfect stranger I always try my best to influence them in the most positive way. I have my past that I can use for good, so if by telling and talking with other people will help, there is nothing that would make me more happy.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

This is a very difficult question, but for me, I know I am drawn towards brands who portrays a strong identity and brands that are offering more than just a product. Now we live in a time where it is almost too easy to communicate and interact with buyers and customers, and I feel that more and more expect you to. I feel that campaigns who involves customers and influencers make us feel like we are being seen and therefore want to be a part of what the brand is selling.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Quality is key, as well as original content, but not in the same manner. You can get away with a lot that is just the same as anyone else. I know we should always try to be original and think outside the box, but the truth is (the way I see it) most people are followers and creatures of habit. We often go for the familiar and known. Aka, what is safe.
For me who is trying to start a lingerie company, I don’t have the “desire” to make my pieces stand out. I draw what I like, and chances are that most people will say they have seen it before. Because they have. That is why, once again;
For me, building a business is about so much more than just creating something pretty or necessary in order to make people want and buy it. Although it is very important(lets be real, I don’t want to make crappy & curious thongs giving my customers wedgies from another dimension). I want my brand to offer a complete experience. I want to engage with them & include them in any way I can.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I like to partner with other brands because of the networking, the experience, the learning, the whole journey. Everything comes with something good, maybe not right away, but it’s all about perspective and perception. If you choose to find something beneficial and positive, you will. The opportunity that is presented with the whole idea of partnering with different businesses is exciting for me.
