Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Joanna Lin @Joanna.Lin

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I was born and raised in NYC — currently I work in a food/drink PR agency creating content, and on the side I produce a video series called “Ready Set Jo!” where I highlight hot spots around the world and through my travels. I also have a travel/lifestyle blog called www.readysetjo.com where I host the videos, review hotels and write about my travels.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

Travel, cocktails, food, pics from events.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

It’s my full name. The hashtag #readysetjo came about as a pun using my nickname “Jo” and because of my spontaneous lifestyle. I usually just pick up and jet off to third world countries without notice. Why ask for permission? Just get ready, set, and jo!

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I just use Instagram

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I like @zachspassport, @spiritedpursuit, @jeremyjauncey, @worldofwanderlust — love all their travel inspiration!

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Humility.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

Inspiring people with my creativity, and also always pushing myself to be creative. Knowing that your voice can make a difference in the way people think.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

-Know your market, and build a persona to cater to that market.
-Don’t sell; story tell instead.
-It’s not about how many impressions you get. It’s about making an impression on that one impressionable person.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Content quality reflects on the brand, so if you want to be perceived as a premium brand, well-produced quality content is crucial. Original content is also important because it is an authentic reflection of who you are, your idea, and what you’re capable of creating.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

It’s like building a friendship, or a relationship. I’m not in it for free things, I care more about how we can help each other in the long run. Also I think brands should look beyond influencers’ following numbers and identify who really personifies the persona they are looking for, and build an organic relationship with this understanding. Too many times I see brands drop $$$ to do a sponsorship with an influencer with a lot of followers, and the influencer doesn’t even care about the brand or give them genuine attention!
