Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Jessica Ho @jessthegrrl

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I’m Jessica Ho, who managed the IG and blog, JESSTHEGRRL and I come from Singapore.

I have always love street fashion, music and arts. Since I was a teenager, I’m known to have possessed a unique (or weird which I had kind of embrace it for years) personality from inside out. However, I had never thought of doing a blog as I do not have the courage and confidence. I always thought that I’m imperfect. Little did I know that imperfections are a beauty in life!

I’ve built a career on graphic design after graduating from art school. After being in the industry for 3 years, I start to rethink on what I’m seriously passionate on. That’s how the birth of my blog as an internet girl came about. I share my personal fashion styling, subculture and art appreciation.

Currently, I’m a freelance graphic designer, stylist, illustrator and photographer. As a creative creed, I’m currently aspired to learn Dj-ing, keyboard and music production. I used to sing and learnt basic drumming skills. In life, I just could not stop feeding my creative needs.

I’m a dreamer, consisting of both daydreaming and seriously dreaming for my future. I want to be a celebrity stylist! Seems outrageous but who cares about what others think? It’s my dream and as long as I know that I had given my all that will do!

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I post about fashion styling, music inspiration and art appreciation. I feel that fashion is a form of living art. Just like a painter painting their thoughts and emotions in a canvas, a musician penning down their thoughts and emotions into beautiful melody and etc, I feel that styling is a daily self expression of my thoughts and emotions. As a creative creed, I believe that fashion styling has to be accompanied by music and art piece to set the tone and mood of contemporary art.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

It’s a pun made from Just The Girl by replacing “Just” with “Jess” to represent myself and replacing a typical “Girl” with “Grrl”, a purring sound made by a tiger that represent fierce, as I’m is a girl who possesses attitude in terms of personality, preference and dressing.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

Lightroom and VSCO mostly. I seldom twig much on my photos. Mostly just the colours and theme.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

@luanna90 is the reason why I started to blog and be an instagrammer. Other that I draw my styles from @ihateblonde, @plaaastic, @sheidlina, @spicyinari and many other alt-girls style.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

To have fun in styling themselves up.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

To be called an inspiration to others.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Make sure that both have agreed on respecting each other’s branding and contents. Do not be afraid to reject or voice out anything that you think that oppose to what you believe in. These will definitely make your content authentic.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Take awesome photos with great creative direction that tells stories.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

To know that they love my niche fashion style.
