Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Jaime Stopa @jpstopa

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I’m a twentysomething communications professional living and working in Calgary, Alberta Canada. My instagram account came out of a desire to create a micro blog that captures my life, sense of style and unique view on the world. It documents and allows me to relive all my major moments–from that perfect beach vacation in Hawaii, to that moment he got down on one knee and I said ‘yes’.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

My account is mainly lifestyle and style focused with supplementary posts featuring (IMO) my adorable boston terrier, Olivia, and my better half, Jason.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

It is my name

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I use Mosaico to plan my content out in advance and VSCO to edit photos.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I am always trying to up my game, so I look at larger accounts to see what they are doing, what is working for them and how they continue to evolve. Some examples of accounts that inspire me are @marinathemoss and @thenewdarlings — while they are quite different, each account has a defined aesthetic and an unmistakable personal brand.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Mosaico or any planning app for content planning. It helps you think through your content and creates a more polished feed.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

I like discovering and trying out new brands and connecting with other fellow instagrammers from around the globe.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

My advice to brands is to provide us with guidelines–like are there specific hashtags that you want me to use, do you want me to tag or mention the brand in the caption, or both, is there anything you should stay away from etc., and inspiration–show me examples of how you think other instagrammers aced your brand. Then otherwise, give us creative control. The result will be purposeful but a lot more authentic.

I try and maintain authenticity by identifying with brands that fit with my aesthetic. If something doesn’t feel right, I won’t try and force it.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Experiment by taking photo bursts of the same thing at different angles and then select the most compelling photo from the batch. This technique helps keep your content looking fresh.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

Well firstly, I feel honored partnering with brands I can get behind. How cool is that? But mainly, I like being able to push my own creative boundaries to come up with engaging content (photos + captions) that best serves the brand and adds value to my account.
