Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Ilona ecott @ilonaecott

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

My name’s Ilona, I’m from London and I’m a model! I grew up in London and the more I travel, the more I realise that London will always be my favourite place. I have been modelling for 2 years alongside my degree and I absolutely love it. I feel so thankful to be able to meet so many different kinds of people and to travel London and even the world.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I love fashion and working in the industry, but I’m also passionate about environmental and animal rights issues. I follow lots of people who work in fashion as well as those in the vegan and health food industry. I post pictures of my work on my page because I want to keep it fairly professional, whilst i know that my modelling pictures are more interesting than those of my breakfast or my dog!

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

its my name!

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

the only thing I do is turn up the brightness sometimes. I don’t bother with filters etc. because I think that a good photo shouldn’t need too much editing. Also, most of my work pictures have been edited on photoshop by a professional by the time I get to see them.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I love Romee Strid’s instagram. She’s a beautiful supermodel who’s worked her way up, not acheived her status because she was super rich or her parents were famous already. Her instagram has a good balance of sharing things about her life whilst sharing the best of her modelling pictures too.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Commenting and getting to know their followers as well as the people they follow. It makes it so much rewarding to form a connection with others who have similar values to you.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

Honestly I love it when people comment on my pictures with a complement or a question. I love responding and getting to know my audience.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

I think its essential that brands only approach influencers who are relevant to their cause and align with their brand beliefs. And its the same for influencers – they shouldn’t post anything that doesn’t suit their own way of thinking or their audience. I maintain authenticity by only collaborating with others who I genuinely support myself. For example, I think it gives a bad message for a slim model like me to post anything abut slimming or weightloss – so I kindly refuse those brands!

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

I always try to think before I post something ‘would i like to see this in my newsfeed’. Is it really interesting to anyone else? Is it visually appealing? Does it look as though time and effort has gone into this photo? As for original content, I think its find to repost someone’s work as long as you give them credit!

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

Meeting new people and finding brands that align with my beliefs.
