Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Hugo @backpackerhugo

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I’m a hobby traveler from The Netherlands. As many times as possible I try to explore other countries. When people look at my Instagram, they often think that I have plenty of free time and travel the whole year. I actually have a full time job as an online editor for a charity organization in The Hague.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

My Instagram account is a gallery of my best travel photos. I love to travel and have been to many different places and countries. I like to show my followers the beauty of this planet and the wide variation of landscapes and cultures. My favorite photos on Instagram are the ones with empty white sandy beaches and palm trees.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

I traveled the world a few years ago, before I had an Instagram account. Afterwards I started to use this social medium to share my travel photos. During my world trip I had my own website what was called Backpacker Hugo, so I decided to continue that name on Instagram.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

Most of the time I only use a few of the Instagram edit options. In the past I used VSCO a couple of times and I’ve used a trial version of Adobe Lightroom. But I like my own photos the best when I edit them with some simple options.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I do really like the accounts of @dansmoe @eskimo @folkscenery @mygreatescapes and @lebackpacker. Yes, all travel accounts.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Follow travel accounts! Get inspired by the beautiful captures from all over the world and realize how carefully we should be to keep the earth so beautiful. And connect with people who share the same interest.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

I like it when I share the my travel photos I get questions about how I can afford it to travel so much. I’m happy to share my tips how you can save money to travel more and to support people to realize it’s possible to travel, also without a job where you make a lot of money.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

The best way to being authentic is to post regularly, keep using the same filters and the same kind of photos.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Key word for Instagram content: quality. I would never advice to post photos or video’s that haven’t the best quality. And when you started to post several pictures of a particular theme, keep posting about that subject.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I’ve never worked together with a brand so far.
