Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Hervie Ong @herveux

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I am working full-time as a Brand Co-ordinator and a Graphic Artist for a local fashion brand. I came from Indonesia 10 years ago for studies and just recently acquired my Singapore citizenship. I have a great interest in fashion, lifestyle, travel and food so that is mainly what I do during my free time; explore new places, do new things and learn at the same time.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

40% of my instagram posts are about food, 40% on fashion and 10% on each lifestyle and travel. I’m hoping to post more about travel and lifestyles as I want to explore and have more travel adventures in the future.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

Whenever I introduce myself as Hervie, people always mistakenly call me Harvey or Hervin,etc and my full name is too hard to remember. Therefore I try to make my name as memorable and cool sounding as possible, not everyone know how to pronounce Herveux ( Her-vouh) but it makes people remember and nowadays I get friends calling me my insta name rather than my real name, which is funny & interesting.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I take them with my iPhone6+ camera, edit them through Meitu ( brightness,saturation,etc) then bring it to Vsco for a cool filter. If needed, I also like to use the mirror app to fill up space if it is a dull picture or the blur app to give it a depht-of-field effect.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I follow plenty of super creative / craft artistes on instagram like ArielLasko, SacraLuna, KellyThompson, JuliesKitchen etc, also photographers like GrantLegan and JohanLolos. But for aesthetic, fashion and lifestyle instagrammers; Garypeppergirl, Taramilktea and Alixcherry came to my top 3 favourite instagrammers and their posts inspire me the most.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

I am currently obsessed with coconut water, but nothing beats the organic fresh,whole-coconut water. It is healthy, cooling and filled with electrolytes. Any sponsor for fresh coconuts?

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

That I get to hand-pick and choose a brand/product that I personally think is worth spreading awareness for. Too many times I tried products advertised by influencers that doesn’t work and is just a waste of time and money.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Stay true to your brand. Upkeeping brand image is very important, the influencer you choose to work with speaks for your brand, therefore choosing the right attitude & character of the influencer is more important than the number of followers they have. For example if an influencer have 120 million followers but only posts half-naked pictures of herself, then her followers will mean nothing to your brand as they’re all just there for her pictures and not to buy your products.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

As an influencer, always be true to your character. Avoid plagiarism by speaking from your heart. Treat followers like friends, not customers.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

Freebies! Just kidding. But what is better than opening presents everyday? Who doesn’t like Christmas right?
