Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Gemma Burdett @gem_burdett

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I am a full qualified hair and media makeup artist, I have also self taught myself the art of henna, and im looking to freelance and work on theatre and moive sets within the makeup industy, I am British and from London but I do believe that my family originates from southern France. I work part time at the fashion retailer Next and on a makeup and skincare agency covering counters across central London.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

My topis of interest revolve around fashion, makeup (of course), body painting and henna art. Which apart from fashion, which Is most what I post on my Instagram account, I like being able to convey a message around a peice of art, using the body as my canvas, my mind as my paints and my hands as story tellers. Henna is beautiful and has such a rich background and story in itself, and a skill that I’ve always wanted to perfect and learn which is what I do in my free time mostly.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

My Instagram name is just based off my name, so it’s professional, easy to remember, and welcoming to new followers and people who look me up, It’s easy to pronounce and it’s just my first name gem (ma) and my surname Burdett so people know how to find me.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I don’t like using filters on my photo’s in all honesty I want people to be able to appreciate my art work and my collectin of pictures and know that what they are seeing is 100% real and genuine just like me as a person I want my personality to reflect through my work.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

Some of my favourite instagramers have to be the ones who originally got me to express myself and get me into makeup so jefree star and “madeyewlook” have to be my most inspiring accounts to scroll through and follow on other social media they are my idols and I aspire to be successful just like them in the future.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

My fellow instagramers have to try the new jefree star skin frosts there beautiful so pigmented and such a good value for money my personal favourites apart from urban decays beached bronzer I live for them, beautiful products.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

My favourite part of being an influencer has to be able to inspire a group of people with as much passion as you have for a worthy cause like same gender marriage acceptance, or to be able to walk out of you home without makeup on and feel confident in your skin without a mask on its about using power for good to make a change.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

By comming up with original ideas or perfecting old ones it’s like highlighting and strobing…. its the same thing it’s not about making money all the time it’s about making products accessible for everyone like cream or gel highlighters for dry to normal skin (which are on the market, just as for example purposes). And staying true to your brand and what you stand for is a big thing and your loyal customers and TA will stay true to you.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

As I said above its about staying true to your brand and What you stand for; like being animal testing free or vegan friendly keep making products that fit into that category as you will keep your target audience happy and loyal to you. Thinking outside the box and not using old ideas and re marketing them that may make sales but we’re not making development in advancing the makeup and cosmetic industry.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I like the idea of partnering with brands as you can become a face for that particular brand and you can give advice to the company and consumers through reviews of products and services the brand give.
