Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Emily Dyan Ibarra @ediphotoeye

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I am a traveling photographer and content creator. I wander the world with my boyfriend, a professional freerunning athlete, Jason Paul. Together we create a Vlog on his YouTube channel of random lifestyle and behind the scenes of our creations. We love shooting photos and videos for social media and interacting with people from different cultures. We are currently in Morocco and heading shortly to Bangkok. I come from California and he is born and raised in Germany.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

The most common thread in my posts at the moment is parkour and freerunning. I love shooting movement and I have been blessed to be around some of the top athletes in some exotic locations. A lot of the time it has to do with flips, heights, and architecture.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

I’ve had the name for a long time. edi are my initials. Emily Dyan Ibarra. photo as in Photography and eye because it rhymes, and having a “good eye” has always been important to me. I also only see this in lower case. It’s really strange to see it capitalized. It’s also gained me the nick name (eddie) which I enjoy. Most people think I am a guy, not a girl. Which I also enjoy as well.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

Adobe lightroom always. I shoot in raw and then process them on my Mac through lightroom. I don’t do a lot of photoshop although I do have some skills in it. Because a lot of the time the people I am shooting are doing unbelievable things I try to make my images look as raw and believable as possible. I then size down the images and email them to myself and download them to my phone and then upload to instagram. I have been also playing with the instagram filters on top of my own color correction. I have a lot of fun going through the different styles.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

@themagdalenaexperience I love how a photographer has turned the camera on herself and that seems to be her main project now. I am always curious what she is up to and how she does it but she doesn’t let on, its so frustrating yet keeps me wanting more. And of course her images are amazing.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Try everything! Try being positive, try meditation, try traveling, try facing your fears, try strawberry flavored, try listening to your intuition, try Blenders Eyewear, because they sponsor me 🙂 try parkour and freerunning, try getting out of your comfort zone, try being different, try living a unique lifestyle, try testing your limits.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

I love hearing about how we have made someone smile or brought them out of a bad mood. I’ve struggled with depression and it’s always comforting to know that many have found something that can get them out of a bad place or stay in a good one. I love hearing how we have inspired them to travel and shoot! That is the best.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Listen to the influencer, question what is most important for you to get across to their audience and know that audiences don’t want this forced on them. We maintain authenticity because we only work with people and brands that excite us and give us freedom to be us. It’s so much more rewarding for us, the brand and the audience.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

As a professional photographer first and foremost, of course quality and original content is what I am all about. Without it I wouldn’t have a job! At the end of the day I believe we are here to create and be creative. I have to push myself to make things at their highest quality without getting too hung up on it. I try to be original but also be playful and experiment with it. Without quality and original content, you are boring, and that is my worst nightmare.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I love selling things! I find it to be a puzzle to work out and play with. I like making people, brands, products look good. I am a very positive person and commercial work push me to make things always have a positive spin. I love that. It’s just like when I am working with athletes or musicians. I want them to look cool, i want to show they are cool and I love creating that.
