Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Diana Orozco @beauty_by_diana

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I am from California. I am focusing on growing my platforms, instagram and YouTube. I went to makeup school & passed my tests. Getting certified was a dream come true. I am very shy, but when I first got hired to work with a cosmetic company & helping them promote new products I was excited. When they told me that I would be on camera, I was scared. The experience was amazing & it helped be brave enough to start my own YouTube channel. Weekly, I am filming videos. Almost daily, I am posting on instagram (unless school gets in the way). I am also a part of the Ipsy Open Studios community, so I stay active on their Facebook page, I love meeting & talking to new people with the same interest as me.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I am interested in makeup, fashion, skincare & hair. On instagram I like to post selfies of my “makeup of the day.” I also take alot of product shots of both products I purchase & products that get sent to me. Sometimes I post mini reviews, but a majority of my reviews are on my YouTube. I also like to post before & after photos of my clients, with their permission of course! I post about the events I go to (beauty related) & the amazing makeup artists & YouTubers I meet.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

I came up with my name while I was in makeup school. My instructor encouraged us to have an instagram name that was easy to remember & something that people would not have a hard time spelling. I originally wanted “Makeup by Diana”, but it was taken. The next big thing I could think of was “beauty_by_diana.” I want my instagram to teach my viewers how to do makeup. I want to show them tips & tricks on how to do makeup, take care of their skin, find the right products, etc. to help them feel beautiful & comfortable in their own skin.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I use “facetune” to soften the skin. Sometimes I use “pic jointer” if I want to do some sort of collage. Lastly, I use “snapseed” or “pictapgo” if I need to adjust the color.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I love Kim Thai’s post & Jaclyn Hill. Jaclyn Hill was the first instagrammer & youtuber that really inspired me to get into their industry. Kim Thai is really inspirtational. I met her a few times & I went to her birthday party, she has such a beautiful soul & is so down to earth.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

They should definitely try “Wanderlush” moisturizer by Kim Thai & Ofra Cosmetics! I have terribly oily skin & this moisturizer helps keep my oils at bay. I learned that oily skin means your skin is dehydrated, it is important to moisturize daily. This moisturizer is perfect for ALL skin types & it acts as a primer! It looks beautiful underneath makeup.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

My favorite part is that I get to “influence” my viewers. I have such positive feedback on my youtube & instagram. I love making my voice heard & giving my opinion on certain products. I also love that I get to meet & talk to new people. I want to encourage people to take care of their skin & not rely on makeup. Makeup is simply an enhancer, it is not meant to cover your already beautiful face!

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Brands should realize that influencers use so much of their time & day to help with these campaigns. We are human beings, we make mistakes, we get tired, we feel. We take this very seriously. I maintain authenticity by not letting any brand “buy my opinion.” I have NEVER accepted money from a brand saying that I MUST say their product is good, even if its not. I want to stay true to my viewers.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Good lighting is important. A good camera or even a new iPhone would work. Lighting definitely either makes or breaks the photo. For original content, one must not copy others. We are capable of coming up with our own ideas and create content just as beautiful and eye catching.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I like getting to know the brands. I want to meet the people behind them and know their story, how did they come up with name? Why is their packaging the way it is? How did it all get started?
