Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Dennis Pang @dennispang

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I’m a first generation Canadian who was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia. I currently run Popcorn, a digital marketing and PR agency that specializes in lifestyles and food/hospitality.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I think it’s pretty obvious from my feed that a large focus is on food. I do have another Instagram handle (@pangcouver) to document the other interesting aspects of my life.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

It’s just my name! It’s always nice when you can claim it before another person with the same name does. In my case, the “other” Dennis Pang is a world-famous surfboard maker.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I usually edit using Snapseed, and then import my photos into Instagram for minor tweaks. I find Snapseed great for cropping, colour correction, and white balancing, but I appreciate the simplicity in Instagram’s native editor too.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I love @dennistheprescott’s food photos. They’re so stunningly rich and vibrant. He could probably even make a burrito look good.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

This mouth-watering crab dish from @anhandchi is to die for.

Instant show stopper. Curried Dungeness Crab from @anhandchi.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

I really enjoy meeting other influencers and getting the opportunity to try exclusive things that I wouldn’t normally get to enjoy on my own.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Make sure that you identify influencers that are a good fit for your brand. When it’s not a good fit, the relationship can be awkward and the result of that can be a misaligned promotion piece that doesn’t resonate well with the influencer’s audience.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Instagram has grown up as a platform. Gone are the days when people snap blurry photos on their 2 megapixel phone cameras, add a tacky border, and slap a Valencia filter on it. These days, if you’re interested in growing your following, it’s all about curating a high quality and original feed. Instagram Stories is a good way to add in supplementary content that doesn’t necessarily need to be as polished, but it can still add value to your followers by giving them a more candid, on the fly look at your life.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

The opportunities that are presented to me can be quite varied, so I like that I am able to pick and choose who to work with on collaborations. I look for partnerships that make sense, that add value to my followers, and that provide ROI for the brands. I should mention that getting paid to post is also nice.
