Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Christopher Wakefield @minnewake

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I am an avid traveler currently based in Minneapolis. I like to think of my self as adventurous and fearless – the later tends to get me into trouble on occasion. I am a strong believer of putting your everything into anything you do.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

My account largely consists of lakes, road trips, and my dog, Loki.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

My Instagram name, minnewake, is a combination of a few things. The first part, minne, is influenced by the sioux word minni, which means water. This is also the word that influenced the name of the state I grew up in; Minnesota means “sky-tinted water”. The second half of my handle is influenced by my last name, Wakefield. I also figured it was a fitting combination because of wake behind a boat.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

Whether in Lightroom or on my phone, I don’t remember the last time I used anything other than VSCO to edit my photos. I highly recommend VSCO pack 6 for Lightroom 🙂

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

The Instagrammers that inspire me the most are my friends that I go on adventures with. They push me to be more creative, and I’m always excited to see the pictures they post from our outings and trips. It’s always interesting to see the different perspectives they take away from seeing the same scenery. Shoutout to @savyjay, @brandoneckroth, and @nipitabread

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Go to Glacier National Park – It will seriously blow you away how beautiful it is!

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

As an advertising major, I think it’s absolutely amazing how social media has expanded the industry and has made it so interactive. I enjoy being apart of the process that connects people with the things they love!

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

I think the most important thing to keep in mind is that emotion sells. People will not remember what you tell them, but they will remember how you made them feel, so producing content that is aimed to create that feeling within the audience is super key.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

We all have that one cousin who doesn’t quite understand social media and who posts tons of pictures on Instagram in a row. No one wants to see 11 pictures from your ‘night out with the girls/boys’, which goes to show that quality is much more important than quantity. Original content is also super important! If you’re doing a collab with another Instagrammer or posting one of their photos, just tag ’em and give ’em some credit, it’s that easy!

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

It’s fun to see what new perspective I can bring to the table when working with a brand that is new to me and furthermore what new perspective they can share with me that betters the work that I produce.
