1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?
I am Qianwei and am currently a student pursuing a part time business degree in Singapore, while also working at temporary full time jobs and being a foodie on Instagram occasionally.
2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?
Food. My only topic of interest on Instagram is food, ranging from cafe brunch food, desserts to occasional japanese food.
3) How did your Instagram name come about?
My insta username (Chewwwie) comes from my surname Chew. “Chewwwie” sounds like “Chewing” which suggests chewing food, and food is what my instagram is about.
4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!
Firstly, I will use snapseed to brighten/contrast parts of the picture. Finally, I will use the editing tools inside instagram to adjust functions like the sharpness before posting the picture.
5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?
Instagrammers like @danielfooddiary and @stormscape helped me to discover new items or new places with their bright vibrant food videos and pictures. Many instagrammers that I follow, with a good artistic food flatlay or food minimalist accounts capture my attention, introduce new perspectives, and inspire me to take great pictures too. People are engaged more by images and pictures rather than text alone. Pictures that are artistic, alive and salivation inducing are pictures that I would like to create and share.
6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?
There are just so many cafe popping up now, and even introduction of new menu items from existing cafes within my “cafe radar” that I have no way to just recommend one item from just one particular place to my fellow instagrammers. But if I really have to, I would recommend the new menu from Paddy Hills I visited recently, especially their berry muffcake and Hei rice which are unforgettable really.
7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?
My favourite part is sharing my passion for food through vivid pictures and recommendations to the larger public so that more people can learn of the cafe culture and delicious food in the hidden or not-so-hidden spots in Singapore.
8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?
Every brand is unique and all are looking for a way to showcase their products through social media. One tip is to set the campaign goal and steer it in the right direction to promote strategically. The best way to get the word out is through user-generated content on social media to maintain authenticity, which is the best word of mouth marketing method to build up your own channel.
9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?
There are many original and exceptionally creative pictures that other instagrammers have taken, and which might tempt yourself into taking similar pictures just to earn those likes. As an instagrammer myself too, I strive to take artistic pictures and do get my inspiration from other outstanding instagrammers, but I would advise against copying the exact same picture or style. Creativity is good, but originality is important. And especially if you want to stand out, creating your own style and determining the quality and authenticity of your own content to capture the public attention is key in taking a step towards being an influencer.
10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?
Partnership with brands would help in delivering market exposure and adding to the overall value of the product. Given the opportunity, it would help in promoting to the public for greater brand awareness, and achieve better customer engagement with the reach of target audience broadened. What I liek about partnering with brands is that in today’s busy world of brand marketing, use of such partnership brand marketing to gain incremental marketing exposure and penetration of new distribution channels is not only a smart way but also an essential marketing tool for brands who must remain ever more competitive in today’s constantly changing marketplace.
