1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?
From Finance to art blogging via Sicily, Milan, London and Zurich. After a successful career in finance I decided to leave it behind and to dedicate myself to my passion: art. Coming from a small and magnificent town, UNESCO heritage site in South-East Sicily, I always had an eye for Beauty in all its architectural and artsy forms. After a bachelor in Economics at Bocconi University and a master in Modern and Contemporary Art at Christie’s Education in London, I decided it was time to transform my blog – aka my passion and hobby – in something more serious. Right now I am trying to turn my love for art into a viable business.
2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?
I love all Art, but in reality I am a sucker for contemporary art and the lifestyle surrounding it. My Instagram profile reflects this passion-obsession of mine, by meticulously documenting the myriads of art-related events I attend, in Zurich and abroad.
3) How did your Instagram name come about?
As I wanted to found the blog, I discovered that the name is the first and most difficult step after deciding to commit yourself to blogging. Your name is your brand, thus I wanted it to reflect the core of what I do: writing about and experiencing contemporary art. As all the names I mentally selected seemed to be already taken, I decided to put the word “temporary” in it – I’d later find out that it worked just find for the type of business I was dealing with.
4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!
I do not really use any special app: I simply use the Instagram filters. Dealing with works of art is much easier that dealing with human subjects, as they are basically what they are and it would make no sense to alter them. I want my viewers to have a visual experience as objective as possible – there are few things worst than not meeting the expectations of your audience.
5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?
When it comes to following people on Instagram, my taste is pretty varied. People from the art world like Brett Gorvy, former Christie’s chairman and international head of postwar and contemporary art, are extremely culturally didactic and you can learn one or two things while reading their posts. However, my current favorite artsy person is JiaJia Fei, the Director of Digital of the Jewish Museum in NYC: her immaculate pictures of artworks and eccentric fashion-sense are inspirational for me. Talking about fashion, my fashion-crush of all time is Aimee Song of Song of Style: even though she has millions of followers, she has remained true to herself. She also seems a fun person to hang out with! 🙂
6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?
I live in Zurich, a city that gets very cold during the winter months. What I love about it (especially if you’re not a passionate skier!) is that many museums have intra-week and weekend workshops and activities. I’d suggest to people to get involved (not only in winter) in the activities of their locals museums: many of them have actually outstanding programs, but due to budget constrains they very often cannot advertise them properly. Many are even free and tons of fun!
7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?
It’s a great feeling when people can “invest” in cultural activities because they have been inspired by a post of mine or by one of my reviews. Many people think about galleries/museums as static, old-fashioned places where you get sore feet. This is today a very wrong assumptions, as many museums, especially the ones dedicated to modern and contemporary art, are very interactive places… not a chance to yawn there!
8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?
Cherry-picking people who reflect the vision and core values of the brand should be paramount for brands and companies alike. People are looking for authenticity these days and looking more and more up to positive role models. I always find it visionary when big brands pick bloggers/influencers that have not such a huge following but a great quality of posts and serious work ethic. I love quality over quantity!
9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?
My approach is: never post something that has no added value or simply to have your #potd . I’d rather have no post that day that publish something just for the sake of publishing. Every post is thought-through and usually contains the description of the work of art, the details of an event and whatnot: this takes quite some time and focus. I strive to give only true and accurate info to my readers/followers. Nothing less!
10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?
What I find interesting in partnering up with brands is the “unexpected” factor of the collaboration. Like that time last December when luxury Swiss Watchmaker Audemars Piguet let @TheJealousCurator to take over its account during Art Basel Miami 2016!
