Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Biche @ChickAboutTown

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I write an East African lifestyle blog called Chick About Town. I am from Tanzania and Uganda. You can usually find me somewhere within the East African Community.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I love the region I live in and my Instagram account, like my blog, is all about showcasing that. I usually post pictures of places I have traveled to within the region, beautiful sunsets, and photos from dining/socializing in East Africa.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

It comes from the name of my blog, Chick About Town.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I mostly edit my photos within Instagram. Sometimes I will use Layout if I want to tell a story using more than one picture and TextSwag if I want to write on the photo.

I begin by choosing a beautiful photo from the photo gallery on my phone. I crop it, find a filter I like, and apply it. I edit the Lux level and then use the different items on the Edit tab in Instagram. That’s it.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

My favourite account by far is DakarLives. They have such beautiful African photos. I am a big fan of fellow Tanzanian lifestyle blogger Bintiesque too.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

On or off Instagram? I don’t understand this question.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

Being able to share things that mean a lot to me. I love being part of writing a new positive African narrative.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Use all the 30 hashtags you are allowed to use. Post regularly. Authenticity is easy…I never take photos for Instagram. I simply take photos and then share them on Instagram (often months after I have taken them).

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Instagram is first and foremost a visual medium. Above all, share the most beautiful images that you can. I’ve never thought of myself as a very visual person. I am not a natural like @Little_Red_Curious or @_Kansh_. When I first got on Instagram last year, I had to learn to stop thinking (I am analytical like that) and instead learn to LOOK only with my eyes. In fact, I repeat that a lot to myself when I am posting on Instagram: “Look only with your eyes”. The cool thing now is that I have learned to “look only with…[my]…eyes” even off Instagram. I now enjoy beautiful sunsets, flowers, sights on a whole different level visually. My Instagram journey over the past year has been one big fun journey!

I don’t know about the importance of original content because that’s all I post. I don’t have anything to compare it to.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I haven’t yet partnered with brands but I am looking forward to my first collabos.
