Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Alyssa @Shesmakingitup

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

My name is Alyssa and I’m a jersey girl. I’m currently a makeup artist in the heart of Jersey. I’m mostly self taught but also attended the Make Up For Ever academy in soho for an intensive program last summer. Along with makeup jobs I’m in my second semester of college. Last year I had the privilege to take a year off of school and go to a different country on a program with friends. On an average morning you can find me in front of my vanity doing my makeup. For me, my vanity is a safe place. It’s where I can just have me time and shut out the world. I get to be creative every single day and my favorite is when I can be creative with others for their special day! The makeup industry is a place where everyone can be themselves and be unique. I’m privileged to be a part of it which is why I blog. I’m all about sharing my knowledge. And the best part is that there’s always new things to learn!

Music and makeup is my safe place and they are the top things I turn to!

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I love anything beauty related! I tend to post mostly makeup and skincare products. But also love to mention the accessories seen in my photos! I’m a big jewelry girl!

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

So it’s funny I was going to do the classic makeup by Alyssa…. but that wouldn’t be unique now would it! So the I thought of just face it and I actually had that for a while but then actually found out that there was a company with that name! So I had to quickly think of something else! So I was playing around with the letters and the word "make up" and that’s when I came up with "shesmakingitup" I liked it because it has a nice ring to it and that’s exactly what I do when I do a clients makeup. I "make them up"
I really think it’s important to come up with something clever. I often bump into people who I don’t know and they are like OMG you’re shesmakingitup! It makes me happy that it stick into people’s head because of how clever it is!

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

Okay this is my favorite app in the world lol I use it for every single photo I put up! Both for my personal instagram and business instagram.
And that’s Facetune! It’s a paid app but not too much and you only pay once and never again! And trust me you won’t regret!
For my collage pictures I use APRIL. I like it because it doesn’t make it look like just any collage. It’s really modern looking.
Another collage type app I use is, PhotoMirror. This is great for makeup pics when you want to change something up on your page!
And for my watermark I use watermark StudioX, this is where I write "@shesmakingitup" on each image I post so that when brands feature me I can be easily found if they don’t tag me and give me credit! Plus no one can steal your work! So this is a must if you’re doing something like makeup or art.
And after that I do my final editing with instagram! And that’s it!

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

Jaclyn hill and carli bybel! These women are super talented! They are beautiful inside and out and I follow them on all my accounts! They ar unique and creative and treat their followers with the most respect! They inspire me and push me to do what I love!

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Go to random hashtags and leave likes and nice comments on people’s pictures! It’ll make someone’s day! Don’t do it with the intentions of getting follows… do it because u know it makes you happy when you get a nice comment. And leave a long comment! I’ve made really awesome connections on instagram that way!

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

Just sharing what I love with people who have the same interests. I love learning new things from others so why not spread the knowledge. I’ve always loved being that person to share stories with a crowd! I like being that person to share.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Just do you. I think a lot of times people post what other people are posting or people feel like oh ….. is becoming a huge trend, I must post about it. Post what you want to post and be who you want to be. That’s what followers and fans really look for. And just interact with the viewers! They appreciate that the most! They should never feel like ghosts stalking a page. Allow them to feel included in your topics and what new things you have to offer.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

I think many things can overlap on the media. Someone posts a picture and someone accuses that person that it’s a copy of something. However, I think that’s because creativity overlaps. I think it’s thought to be completely original all the time. However, I think everyone’s intentions should be original and different. You’re allowed to be inspired and build off of that. Always add something new.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I realize there are so many talented people who came up with great quality brands! Which constantly inspires me. I’ve partnered up with big people like a tanning cream that’s sold at sephora to a smaller brand of a husband and wife creating their own cosmetic line. I’ve even partnered up with a girl who makes her own glitters and sells them on etsy. Partnering with brands keeps em encouraged that anything is possible and maybe one day I like be that. It makes me happy to explore new brands and review their stuff and spread the word to others. I’m happy I can get those underrated brands out there more!
