Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Val Kepler @valkepler

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

Born and raised in the Maryland/DC area. Always had the feeling that I was unsatisfied where I grew up, left my house when I turned 18 and began exploring the country. I’ve lived in California, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Colorado. Possibly moving to Vermont soon. I would have to say my favorite experience in life so far was living in Breckenridge, CO working as a snowboard instructor.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I love extreme sports! and my friends. I’m an adrenaline junkie, and I love putting myself in situations that force me to preform to my full potential and constantly progress. I’m always trying to get better at anything I do, it keeps life entertaining. My friends are also huge to me – I am picky with who I surround myself with. I am a huge believer in vibes and energy so I try to keep good, genuine people around me. My friends are like family to me, I would do anything for them.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

It’s just my name. Val Kepler. People have told me it sounds like a superhero name – so I think that’s pretty cool. Other people have told me it sounds like a stripper name.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I used to use VSCO religiously. But lately I’ve been trying to make it a point in my life to be completely genuine – that includes instagram. So I’ve been posting pictures unedited. The most editing I will do now days would be playing with the lighting or contrast but thats about it.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I follow pro snowboarders, mountain bikers, BMX, skateboarders, and mountains. Anything to keep me motivated and inspired.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

WHATEVER YOUR HEART DESIRES! Now is the time – there is no time better than now. You aren’t guaranteed days in your life, don’t postpone things that are important to you or that you have interest in because there’s no 100% guarantee that you’re going to be alive until a certain time. It sounds morbid but it’s true, take everyday as a gift, be grateful, and live in the moment.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

I strive to be the break that people need from this society we live in.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Don’t know if I have tips for brands, but I personally just don’t do things that don’t make me happy. Even work, I don’t accept a higher paying job if it makes me miserable. I’d rather get paid less and be passionate and happy about what I do.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

a lot of my stuff isn’t the best quality. It would be nice to have a better camera but it’s just not a priority right now. I don’t think my followers mind it either. My pictures and videos are usually just me hanging out with friends, trying new tricks or totally goofing around. I try to be as original as possible, my mind is also a crazy beast and comes up with the weirdest ideas. I don’t think I could be a copy cat if I tried.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

Collaborating with brands or people is awesome! Not only is it usually a really fun experience, but opens my mind to new ideas – keeps those creative juices flowing!
