Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Trevor Wentt @t_wentt

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I am a Visual Artist currently living in Raleigh, NC, born in Atlantic City, New Jersey and raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia. I have a BA in Photography with minors in both Biblical and Intercultural Studies. I am the Visual Arts Director at Lifepointe Church in Raleigh. My mission with art is to tell stories, challenge viewpoints, process thoughts, ask questions, share experiences. I want to challenge people to see life in ways they have never seen it before through eyes that they may have missed.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

Most of all I tell stories through my instagram feed that documents moments of my life to share with people. I often use portraiture as the photographic genre to do so. People matter more than any other thing that I could shoot. People add a depth, a question, a connection, and so on. People change a frame, so I love shooting portraits.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

In high school, some friends started calling me T-Wentt and it stuck. Throughout my wrestling career and basically any form of social interaction, many called me T-Wentt, so it’s also a play on that: t_wentt.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

VSCOcam is my biggest phone source for image editing. It’s killer in terms of color presents and editing capabilities. Also, the camera control is pretty great. Gives more control over your phone as a photographer, which I love. If I’m adding graphics, it’ll usually be through Over, but from time to time I edit in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop and just share the images to my phone to post.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

Gosh, @mrmedina, @christiangideon, @rayneutron, @joshuakissi, @stanflan, @melanieflanigan, @typicalmag, and @lostmyspirit_ are a few of my biggest inspirations right now. Each has their own style that they’re very unapologetic to show and express and I love that. They each bring original content to the grams that compels me to dive deeper into my craft. Grateful to be impacted by their artistry.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

The multiple photos feature is a great tool to be able to share multiple images from a single shoot that won’t feel like overkill. I say hop on that, get creative with it, and make dope art.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

I just want people to be all they can be. I feel like that’s a God-given passion of mine, so if my influence visually on social media can compel people to that, then I’m all for that.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Be you. Don’t try to imitate Nike, Yeezy, Hypebeast, Complex, etc. etc. Craft your own voice. Partner with artists who love your brand, enjoy your vision and invest in them, so that they can invest in you. If they authentically love your stuff, they will share it. It’s not about having everyone like you, it’s about creative a strong core following that loves and buys into your vision. Those are the people that will make your brand successful.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Quality is huge. There’s enough information and visual vomit coming at us day to day. By making quality work that represents you, you will stand out. One of my favorite poets says, "Be the varsity version of you, no the jv version of someone else." That’s the sort of ideology to hold onto. God only made one of you and you have specific feelings, giftings, talents, and interests. Let those things come out in your work.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I love supporting companies that I love. If I can share how dope they are with the people that I get to pour into on the grams, then all the better. If I believe in a brand, I want others to be impacted by them just as much as I have been. I won’t partner with any brand that I don’t love or believe in what they’re doing. And let’s be real, who doesn’t like free stuff?
