Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Shanel Henderson @itsashanelthing

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I have always loved fashion, I believe it is a personal way to express yourself and your own style and personality. I am doing social media for some companies here in Edmonton where I live and working on launching my own personal blog. My passion has always been for Instagram and I want to build my brand and niche in the fashion blogger world.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

My topics of interested on Instagram have always been mostly fashion related, whether it be flat lays or selfies or candid shots of my outfits. I also love to cook so featuring my favourite recipes and tips for healthy eating and tips for eating gluten free as I am a celiac. I love movies so I am alway storying my movie of choice for the evening! I also love beautiful photography weather it be a landscape view or a portrait of me I love to feature cool art or a intriguing background in my photos!

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

My Instagram name itsashanelthing came from the fact that I think I have my own personal way of doing things and I don’t follow everyone else I have always been different and its worked for me being that its always kind of been a Shanel thing so my own thing.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I use VSCO cam to edit, I use snapped, and the Instagram editor. I am huge fan of the Ludwig filter on Instagram it is my go to for my photos I feel it compliments my colour palette well. I always brighten my photos , turn the contrast up, bring the warmth way down, and up the saturation a little.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

My favourite instagrammer is @weworewhat she has been my inspiration from the very beginning of my journey. We have very similar tastes and she is very close to my age and I look u to her as an inspiration that if you want something go get it!

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

To find their niche and go with it! Stay true to your self, be something for someone not everything for everyone.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

The part I love about being an influencer is inspiring other people like I have been inspired by people. Sharing my own personality with the world and be myself and showing people its ok to be you!

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

I think the most important tip for brands when running campaigns is to find people that believe in your product not just want to show it off. I think having a true passion for something makes the campaign come off more authentic. I maintain authenticity by always staying true to myself, the brand picked me to campaign their product because they like what I am already doing and would just like me to incorporate their brand into my niche and my personality and reflect it to my followers in my way to see that the brand fits a diverse group of people and personalities.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

My advice on the importance of quality and originality is I believe its always quality over quantity. Don’t just post something because you feel like you need to. make it the quality that your page stands for and make sure it fits your niche and your audience and try to make your content your own don’t follow what everyone else is doing, be different give your audience something different to see.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

The best part about partnering with brands I fell is that I am helping them get their brand out there as much as they are helping my get my name out there as an influencer. I also think it gives you a chance to try brands or products you might not have thought about and actually really following in love with it.
