1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?
I am a proud graduate of Skidmore College with a BS in Dance, Psychology, and Arts Administration. I’m currently in NYC living the dream and pursuing my dance/musical theater career. Health and fitness have always been a huge part of my life (I was a competitive swimmer all the way through college). I have now been vegan for a year and a half and it’s a huge part of my life. This year I also became an instructor at Broadway Bodies, and I love it.
2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?
Vegan snacks, dance, broadway, and fitness. Most of my posts are photos of my food and videos of me dancing. I try to include photos about my general life as well–people like to see behind the scenes!
3) How did your Instagram name come about?
It’s my name! My full name is Sarah Juliet Shaw. I thought it would be best for my brand as a professional dancer if my Instagram name was my actual name.
4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!
For the most part I just use Instagram to edit my photos (my favorite filter is Clarendon). Other apps that I will sometimes use include Aviary and iMovie.
5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?
Oh my gosh! This is so hard. I could write an essay on which Instagrammers I like the best, but I think my favorite might be @fitforbroadway. Fitness, health, and broadway…it’s me in a nutshell. Jane Jourdan’s Instagram is bright, happy, and always on brand. Not only is her feed on point, but she always has a solid Instagram story going! #goals
6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?
Flywheel! It’s my new addiction. My favorite instructor is Emily (@thehealthyhustle).
7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?
Partnering with brands. I love finding out about new products and services and getting the chance to tell others about them too! I also really enjoy challenging myself artistically when it comes to taking my Instagram photos.
8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?
Do not agree to work with a brand that you would not consider using in your real life. That is the number one thing. For example, I would never partner with a brand that isn’t vegan because I would never eat something non-vegan and therefore I wouldn’t want to recommend it to my followers!
9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?
You need to have a healthy combination of high quality, professional looking photos along with some “behind-the-scenes” posts. People want to follow Instagrams that are pretty, but they also want to follow real people.
10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?
The opportunity to try new things!
