Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Ong Jin Wei, Alton @just__rejetionz

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

My name is Alton and I have a wide range of skills, currently I am studying in Singapore and I study in Republic Polytechnic as a Year 1 student, studying Hotel & Hospitality Management. However, my hobbies are not what many people know about and it is competitive yoyoing. To be honest, I’m not really that great in terms of ranking but what I love about the sport is that I get to meet new people and expand my connections, as well as enjoying the sports to take my mind off things. I am also a freelance photographer and I have my own Facebook page for my photography interest named, “Harambe Photography”. (www.facebook.com/rejetionzphotography)

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

What I usually post on Instagram are what I experience personally in my day-to-day life and sometimes photographs that I take for others. But from time to time, I do post pictures of myself wearing hype fashion, although they may be simple, I do hope that fashion companies might sponsor me to carry their products and advertise for them to expand their market in Asia.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

My Instagram name is nothing really special actually, its just my IGN which I use online in gaming platforms like Steam, Battle.net and Garena.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I don’t really edit my photos much as I like my pictures to be depicted as they are taken. All natural and no filters (but from time to time, I add filters to dramatize the pictures).

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

There aren’t really many Instagrammers that I really like as I focus on myself and the people I know.
If I had to choose what type of Instagrammers that I like, it would be those who share the same hobbies as I do like photography. I love to look up what other photographers are snapping and see if I am able to learn and adapt their style into my own style to form my own unique style.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

I guess it would be photography. Photography is easy, you can do it with a digital camera or just with a smartphone. There is no such thing as bad photos, only bad photographers.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

My favourite part about being an influencer is that I am able to help a certain company gain more recognition among my peers and those who follow me on my social media. I feel that the fact that if a certain company recognizes and sponsors you to help spread the influence and expand their customer base, it is really an honorable and enjoyable thing to do.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

My tip would that, stay true to your consumers. Understand their needs and wants. Appeal to their wants in a way that it will make them feel it is a need for them to purchase, affecting their purchase behavior.

In order to maintain authenticity, there isn’t really much ways to maintain it but you have to think out of the box. Observe your competitors and try not to go for the same appeal or tactic but instead, look at the flaws in their campaigns and aim to change that to beat the competition.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

The importance of quality and original content is very high. With original content, everyone will be trying to get on the same level as you but if you are able to maintain high quality and original content, you won’t have to be afraid of competitors always stealing your customer/follower base as you are always producing new and original content for your followers and that is what they are actually looking for in a brand. One that stands out from the others and has originality and creativity.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

What I like best about partnering with brands is that you’re able to get their new products to showcase for free and to be honest, who doesn’t like free stuff? On the other hand, it is definitely a huge honor to be able to help a brand carry their product line and advertise for them, it is also very fun as you have the freedom of choosing how to showcase their products the best and you are able to show different styles from other Instagrammers who are also partnering with the same brand, that way you are able to reach out to a wide variety of audiences and increase the brand’s customer base.
