Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Olivier Miche @instaphotosomi

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I’m from Switzerland, living in France, Haute Savoie, on the Mont-Salève. I’ve always worked in the Geneva area, all my family is in Switzerland. I’m a musician too, I play a guitar, violin and piano.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

Landscape photography is my favorite, often considered like easy ground, it’s not, as the point is to capture something you feel, not only what you see. It’s not a postcard, it’s capturing light, this is what I love to do.
I’m new to street photography, but find this very interesting, it needs a lot of work and practice, but I will be trying to shoot more of these.
I love night photography too, it’s always surprising, long exposure is very interesting.
To be honest now I’m feeling the need to go somewhere else with my photography, not that I dont love landscapes anymore, but I need some new challenges.
I’m working in black and white and color.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

It’s all around my real name. My website is PHOTOSOMI (for photos+OMI (my initials), as this name was already taken on instagram, i had to add something, and here I am instaphotosomi.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I shoot more and more with Fuji’s camera, if I have’t my computer with me, I export a jpg from the camera, I use “pixelmator” on my phone and post.
The other routine, more with Nikon DSLR is Lightroom on my mac, where I edit my raw files, then export a reduced jpg to a dropbox folder and post.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I like the big accounts like Magnum photos, National Geographic, Lens Culture. I follow also curator accounts like unsplash, awesupply, postcollective etc. And also local accounts and community around Geneva. (igersgeneva, swiss tourism, geneva tourism)

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Pokémon GO 🙂

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

To be honest I’m not yet, but that will be nice ! Sharing not only my photography, but also “a point of view” to a bigger number of people would be great. I’m in the @igersgeneva team too, and try to be present in my city, Geneva in Switzerland. Being more of an influencer would be good for this too.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Try not to fake reality, authenticity is reality. If you’re honest in what you do, sincere, people will see/feel it. If you’re not, you’re wrong.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

I you have a doubt, even the smallest one, don’t post it ! Quality doesn’t do everything, quality is technical, originality is creativity, and creativity is what is important.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

Maybe having the possibility to take pictures of different things, breaking the daily routine, being able to go to new places. And also give my “eye” on things, with my point of view.
Never really worked with brands, but one thing is for sure I won’t change the way I am for a brand, authenticity again, even it’s for a brand I’ll never give up on that.
