Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Myke Motus @mykemotus

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I am an advertising practitioner, visual artist, photographer and dreamer based in Singapore from Manila, Philippines. I graduated from the Royal and Pontifical University of Santo Tomas with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts & Design Major in Advertising Arts. I also have a Visual Arts certificate from Whitireia, New Zealand. In 2010, I worked in Singapore as a Mobile App UI & UX Designer until 2013. I also worked as a Graphic Web Designer / Photographer in a fashion and beauty social network for Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan, Philippines and Japan markets named Clozette & GlamAsia. I am currently working as a Visual Designer – Marketing for an international Visual Search Technology company based in Singapore.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I post mainly everything but focuses on travel, food, lifestyle, fashion and everything artistic. I just love taking aesthetically pleasing photos that will entice other people to try whatever I am doing or eating and also inspiring them to take a well composed photo.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

My Instagram name has to be a timeless. I’d rather go for a simple one and used my nickname onto it. I want it to be consistent across all my social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook Fan Page.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I use mainly VSCO and Instagram. I have to make sure that the photo I take doesn’t require much post editing. From there, I use VSCO to apply my custom preset filters and just copy and paste it to my new photo. I use Instagram’s alignment functions and some twitching when it comes to the clarity and colour gradings.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I like how @oraclefoxblog and @margaret__zhang does it. They both have that beautiful mess feeds that never fails to amaze me.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

I want them to try being artistic. Being an artist is hard because it is actually a skill and in born. Being artistic is a different way. They can just explore and be artistic on their own little ways especially via Instagram, where they can take aesthetically pleasing photos with a story behind it.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

My favourite part is really helping. Helping not only other people to know what they have been long looking for, what they be enticed to try, what they want to explore and where they want to go. Not only help to my followers, but also helping the budding businesses and established names and institutions to spread the word to others in my own artsy way.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

A back story behind each and every campaign is really essential. I have an advertising background that is why this is a crucial part to me. I have to make sure that it is inlined with the company and campaign’s overall look and feel. You have to have that peripheral elements that will compliment the actual product or activities.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Quality is vital. You have to have quality and original content in order for your posts to have a traction to the market. Yes, you can get inspiration from other influencers or posts, but by manifesting it on your own is definitely something from your creative minds and execution.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I like working with brands because I learn a lot of things like, profiles, backgrounds and their products and services. By knowing all those things, I can come up with something that will interest not only me but also my followers. I also want to make sure that I can see myself as an end user that the brand is actually something that I will patronise.
