Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Michelle Lim @mixuewr

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I am Michelle and a single mother to a 4 and 6-years old. I grew up in The Netherlands and only returned to Singapore when I was 17-years old. Currently my full-time occupation is a marketing executive for 3 different labels and I am also a babywearing fitting specialist. On top of that, to support my children I also take on freelance gigs as an emcee, catwalk trainer and speech coach. In the little pockets of free time, I use my IG to reach out to the (single) parent community and to break the stigma around sensitive topics. I have been featured on several platforms retelling my story about how I go about my daily life as a single parent. Last but not least, I was recently crowned in March 2021 as the grand winner of Mrs World Peace 2021. With this title I have done charity work and I have brought home an international title to make our country Singapore proud.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

As mentioned above, single parenting, general parenthood related topics, fashion, healthy lifestyle, dining.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

mixue is Chinese for Michelle, wr these letters are part of my initials.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I always stick to BeautyPlus, PicsArt and Snapseed. As they offer functions pretty close to Photoshop and they’re very user friendly. To me lighting and clarity in a photo is key to a beautiful feed. Also colour often sets the mood and you can standardize your socials “look” by using similar settings.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I really like lecinlurvee and tryguys, because they’re amazing editors and write some amazing stuff. I always look up to them for inspiration for my some of my own editing.

6) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

To actually be able to touch other people’s lives. When they drop me a DM and tell me how they found hope through my stories, is when I feel that I’ve at least done something good in this lifetime. Of course, trying out new experiences from sponsors is very humbling and eye opening at times.

7) What’s your favorite part about StarNgage? Any exciting campaigns that you have joined through StarNgage before?

I am new here, but I am excited to get started.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Don’t forget where your brand started from, be innovative yet don’t let go of your roots. Authenticity I feel is key in the vast world of socials these days. Having a feed of only giveaways (not criticizing here) or solely promoting products without a back story is a little empty. But of course, that is just my opinion and the way I handle my socials. I always like to impart a splash of reality among all the perfect images to keep things raw, real and close to the heart.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

This is definitely important for both factors. Images, videos and captions must be of quality work. You can ensure that by always proof reading and being meticulous when taking photos and editing. Stay original so that you can brand yourself in a unique way, so that people will distinguish you from the crowd.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I get to learn a lot sometimes from some brands and the marketing people are often pleasant to work with. I always like to engage with brands that align with my values and lifestyle.
