Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Mercy Baez @Lordda_mercy

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I am a woman’s advocate for domestic violence from Bronx, New York, telling my story of survival and woman empowerment through my artistry. I consider myself to be a traveling storyteller: I travel to perform my many talents of motion of dance, yoga and contortion, acting, and spoken word. I am currently a dance and fitness instructor at South Bronx Community High School, where I brought woman empowerment into the school system. I have my One Woman Show entitled "The Rebirth of Mercy" in rotation throughout different universities and venues worldwide. The first performance was at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I mainly post anything that has to do with my artistry and the support of others. I post fliers, video clips and pictures from precious and upcoming performances. I have some pictures and videos with some celebrities such as Nick Cannon and many more displaying features on some upcoming ventures. I may also post some work from training both dancers and my students with workouts and dance.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

Both my real and stage/artist name is "Mercy". I have some carribean background so most of our songs are reggae with the similar slongan saying "Lawda-Mercy" at any given moment of the song. With it being so random and lively, I believe that also helps to describe my personality as well as the foundation of the dance style that I do which is called "Flexn" has dancehall as its base.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I don’t like to edit much of my photos for the same reason why I am mainly a freestyle dancer, to remain as raw and original as possible. If I do edit some pictures with an empowering message or with proper edits I would use "Studio". For the most part I use the filters and edits given on Instagram, or my pictures would come out already edited from a professional photoshoot.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

Most of my inspiration for my artistry or how I would want my Instagram page to look like comes from celebrities. Some celebrities like Alicia Keys, @Jmedia_, @myles_yachts, @lilbuckthelegend catch my attention. I like to pay attention to Instagram pages with a set up of professional pictures displayed, edited videos of any kind, and a specific organization set up for how they brand themselves.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

I believe if my fellow instagrammers would use this platform to build and brand themselves wholeheartedly, it would be greater for everyone to build together. People just need to use social media to spread positive enforcements of love and support to one another to make it a better and more happier space. I also believe, and I can investigate on doing this more myself, that turning your Instagram into a business it would be a greater turnout.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

I love inspiring people to become their better self. I stand for women, being free and different and showing vibrant energy through my artistry. You know you’ve left an impact on someone when they start showing "you" through what it is that they do. I have had many artists create other creative projects after having an encounter with me, whether it was watching me perform live, being trained by me, experiencing my monthly women empowerment circles, or just simply meeting and speaking with me. I am truly grateful to change lives and leave an ever lasting impact on people.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

The way brands can run campaigns better to maintain authenticity would be to target where the issue is, or build around the platform presented. Including real people from the community and having live videos with as much content as possible. Different fliers or used of promotion being made for campaigns may also be helpful. Lastly, targeting our youth to show how serious something is and how it’s being passed down to the younger generations.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Quality is very important with pictures and videos as it’s a representation of you and all that you stand for and create. If the quality isn’t as good, it can possibly be harder for you to get certain bookings and collaborations. Being original is just as important to stand out from the rest especially if in the artistic world where many people may be in the same field as you. Being original can be a major contribution and boost to your career and passion for your interests.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

Partnering with brands allows you to build your own brand and expand. I believe in everyone working together and sharing platforms and connections in which it applies. Partnering with brands allows you to basically have another outlet to display across.
