Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Meleah McKee @meleatery

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

Originally from Vancouver, BC, I now live in Toronto and am a student at Ryerson University. I am studying Professional Communication, and work closely with my school’s social media management and content creation.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

At the moment, my main topic of interest is discovering new food options throughout both Vancouver and Toronto by visiting new and innovative restaurants and supporting these local businesses by posting about them on my Instagram.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

My Instagram name, @meleatery, is a combination of my name, Meleah, and “eatery”. Hence, @meleatery.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

The main app I use for editing is VSCO, but with my food account, I make minimal edits because I want the food to look as realistic as possible. I usually just adjust the temperature, highlights, and shadows.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

My favourite food accounts include @teamchomp, a Vancouver-based food blogger, as well as @tofoodies. Both accounts post high quality photos of food, and @tofoodies even has their own line of merchandise.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

If they haven’t used it yet, Boomerang! It’s super fun and if you aren’t using analytics, it can give you a basic idea of how many people are viewing your content.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

I love it when people come to me for food suggestions, or tag their friends in posts that inspire them to go out and try new food. I love helping them discover more places to go eat!

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Ensure that the message you are sending through your campaigns still matches with your brand’s original vision.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Before I post a photo, I always put myself in the shoes of someone who follows me. Would I enjoy this new post? Would this photo make me want to engage with this community? Does the quality of this post make me take this account seriously? If I answer yes, then I post the photo.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I love seeing new products and ideas, or products that I haven’t seen before, and having the opportunity to test them out.
