Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Malvika Sheth @stylebymalvika

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

As of current, I’m the founder and digital content creator behind my personal fashion + beauty platform, Stylebymalvika. I started just two years ago in my college dorm as I was yearning for a creative outlet having been a pianist and dancer in my high school years. Fashion was always something I had a keen eye for a deep interest in, and slowly but surely, my blog became my full time career! I was born and brought up in Los Angeles, moved to Boston for college, and now I’m back in LA!

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

My main topics of interest are fashion and beauty, but my main goal is to empower driven women like myself to use fashion as a creative outlet so that they feel confident enough to get up, get dressed, and go after their biggest ambitions–whatever those may be. Fashion has a lot to do with expressing yourself and feeling confident, and I just want those that follow me to get inspired to feel the same.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

It was pretty natural–I didn’t want to name it something random that had nothing to do with me, because at the end of the day, my blog is really personal, and I think that’s why so much of my audience has stuck with me throughout the years. I’ve really shared a lot about my journey making it as a fashion content creator, alongside hoping to inspire other women to make it in their goals.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I use Meitu and Lightroom! I don’t edit too much, but I like to have an cohesive aesthetic to my feed. I start with Meitu to fix/brighten the shot, and then go straight to Lightroom to apply my Preset.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I was inspired to start my blog by so many of the champions of the fashion blogging industry–from Chiara Ferragni, to Aimee Song, Negin Mirsalehi, Camila Coelho, Tamara Kalinic–really, anyone that fearlessly went after their dreams to build their own personal brand in the fashion space.

6) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

Connecting with other people, and being able to express myself creatively. Those are the two greatest feelings in the world, and what really gratify us as human beings.

7) What’s your favorite part about StarNgage? Any exciting campaigns that you have joined through StarNgage before?

I think StarNgage gives people like us a way to genuinely make what we love doing a career, and partner with brands that we like and believe in. When we get to choose the brands we would like to partner with, it’s often much more organic than if we just accepted any and every brand that came to us.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

I would say give the creator a chance to showcase your brand in their authentic voice. Often times, influencer campaigns that brands run don’t perform as well because there are too many rules, limitations, and guidelines that influencers have to follow that then result in their true voice being taken away in messaging. I think brands should really work with each creator on a case by case basis, instead of having all their creators put out the same/similar messaging.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Don’t overthink it. The more you try to strategize and overthink your content, the more it feels staged. Even if what you’re doing is a business, at the end of the day, it only is so because you have been YOU. Don’t just try to do what’s “trending,” or what everyone else is doing. If you can be you in all this noise on social media, that’s what really makes you successful.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I like that it gives me an opportunity to tell my story alongside their brand story. Each brand evokes a certain emotion, and I think when I partner with a brand, I first ask myself: “Is this a brand that evokes the same emotion that my content would?” If so, then the partnership usually goes over very well!
