1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?
I am a true East coast girl at heart, having grown up in Southern NJ. After attending Providence College, I moved up to Boston, where I have lived for four years now! I studied Finance in college, but fashion has always been my true passion. As my family has always said…my eyes light up whenever I am talking about it. It is because of this that I decided to start my blog, Six Feet In Heels!
2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?
I am mainly interested in fashion, which is what I tend to post about the most on Instagram. My website, www.sixfeetinheels.com, is solely dedicated to fashion, style, and my take at incorporating both in my day to day life. Other things you will see on my Instagram relate to my life here in Boston, as well as some of my travels!
3) How did your Instagram name come about?
One of the first things I learned when I decided to jump in with both feet and start my blog is that your name is important. Sixfeetinheels was a name I came up with based on my height, which is overall pretty obvious. I have always been tall, and used to joke that I am six feet when wearing heels. It was just something that stuck and rolled off the tongue…and now here we are!
4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!
I keep my photo editing pretty simple. I have never been a very tech savvy person, and that is one of the areas where I have learned the most throughout all of this (though I still have a long way to go!). If editing pictures on my phone, I use an app called Snapseed. When editing on my computer I use the editing tools that come on my MAC. I wish I had some great tips and tricks for everyone, but truth be told, I don’t do anything too crazy with my photos. I’m also lucky to live in the beautiful city of Boston, which provides the perfect backdrop to my photos, with little editing needed!
5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?
One of my favorite Instagram accounts is DamselInDior. She is a fashion blogger based in LA, and she is awesome! I love her simplistic, yet elegant, sense of style. She is everything that embodies being a cool girl, but she does it in way that makes it easily attainable for the general public. I had the opportunity to meet her, which was amazing! Aside from her, I try not to follow too many fashion accounts, as I get so much exposure to it because of my mild fashion obsession. I really appreciate Instagram accounts that provide me some wanderlust. Some accounts that I can think of off the top of my head are ASenseofHuber, ClarkLittle, and TownPool.
6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?
Stop telling yourself that you will start working on your dreams and just do it! For me, starting my blog/Instagram was a little terrifying. I was so nervous to put myself out there and open up to everyone’s comments and critiques. Luckily, I have had really nothing but positivity throughout this process so far. However, I would have never known that had I not taken the plunge and started my blog. I talked about doing it for years, and then one day I realized that talking and doing are very different things. Taking action has led to so many opportunities for me that I would not have had otherwise. So, what is stopping you from achieving your dreams?
7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?
Probably one of the coolest parts of being an influencer on Instagram has been all of the amazing people I have met because of it! I have made some new friends, and overall have just gotten the opportunity to be around people who share my interests, whom I would have never met otherwise.
8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?
I think the most important thing that a brand needs to be conscious of when running a campaign is their audience. Who do they want their audience to be? What would that audience want to see? How can you best get your audience to engage with the campaign/brand? Without a following, or audience, most brands would cease to exist. Brands need to walk the line of balance between staying authentic to what they want to promote, while also creating new content in the hopes of expanding their following. Another thing that I think is of utmost importance in today’s social media prevalent world, is honesty and realness. Many people seem to be wanting to see something they can relate to, versus something they can aspire to, but is not entirely attainable. In my opinion being able to appeal to people in a way that they can relate to, while difficult, can bring a brand very far.
9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?
Original content is something that is so important. This is especially true because social media markets are so oversaturated when it comes to content. I think the key to putting out good quality, and original, content is not trying too hard to put things out there that you think people want to see. If all one is thinking about is whether or not a certain segment of people will like something, then they are not truly focusing on what makes their content unique to them. I am a firm believer that if you are true to yourself and post things that you’re passionate about, that people will follow!
10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?
One of the best things about partnering with brands is the exposure you get to the business side of the influencer industry. When you start an Instagram, or a blog, and you don’t have much of a following yet, it can be hard to think of it as a business sometimes. Working with brands forces you to take a step back and reevaluate what exactly it is you spend so much time working on and why it is worth the effort. Aside from that, working with brands opens up the door to potentially work with other brands and to really grow and adapt your influence!
