Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Lisa Kelley @wheresandiego

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I like to be an expert on all things San Diego, though I also love traveling and exploring new cities. I think a city is best discovered by getting lost, eating the most eccentric item on the menu and finding beauty in the simple moments and things.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

Food, San Diego attractions, events, outdoors, shopping, fashion, fitness…

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

WhereSanDiego is a brand all about WHERE to go and what to do in San Diego.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

VSCO, sometimes photoshop, Foodie… I often use Later to schedule out my posts.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

Annielawless, eater, VisitSanDiego, JeffMindell

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Aerial yoga… and of course a delicious acai bowl on the beach afterwards.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

I love sharing all the hidden secrets of San Diego with my followers. Finding the local boutique retailer with the best jewelry, or the best taco stand, the best hike… I love capturing lifestyle moments that give a deeper portrayal of San Diego as a whole.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Consistency across the campaign is key. I think it’s important to not only have consistent branding and “voice” in the captions and hashtags, but also a consistent look in the photos used. They can certainly bring unique styles and personalities to a campaign, especially if using several different influencers, but photos should have an overarching theme, palate and story. Authenticity is bringing viewers into an experience—sharing part of a story that can be universally appreciated. Campaigns should engage viewers emotions, not just their spending power.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Stock photos are a dime a dozen, but using original photos from trusted influencers with loyal followers creates higher engagement and helps content stay relevant.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I love meeting the people behind the brand and learning their stories. Everyone is passionate about their products or services, and it’s exciting to be able to partner with them and watch their brand grow.
