Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Keith Ketchum @keithketchum

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I’m a professional photographer on the beautiful island of Kauai. I went to college for studio art and got into photography through surfing. I shoot all types of assignments but people seem to be a recurring theme. Adventure, fashion, style, portraits, brand development and wedding photography as well as part time modeling keep me busy. When not working I love to surf, do crazy ridge hikes, hang with friends or mellow out watching a good indie flick.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

Fashion, outdoors/adventure, ocean, tropical scenery, whatever I’m working on at the moment

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

it’s my name. I know, super creative.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I typically edit my photos professionally through Lightroom or Photoshop but if on my phone, Snapseed, Afterlight or Deluxe

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

Any photographers getting unique angles or creative shots inspire me. There are a bunch of fashion photographers and surf photographers I’m really digging lately. @keslertran , @_danielrusso_ , mags like @stab or @hifructosemag are a few.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

I’m a big fan of Boomerang. You can get creative with it. I like that it’s integrated into the app now.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

I just like posting pretty images. It’s as simple as that. If I think it looks rad, hopefully someone else will too.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Like my art professor alway told me. It’s all about having a series. Your strongest work is best shown if you do lots of it. Have a cohesive look to your work, whether it’s your subject or the way you edit your photos. It will look uniform and pleasing to the eye.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Quality is imperative; originality is almost as much. There are a lot of people ripping other people off these days but if it looks better when someone else does it, they might get the credit. Meaning, do your best the first time.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

The creative process. If it’s a good fit, a brand can inspire you. This leads to creative ideas, fun images and me being proud of my work. If I’m proud of what I photograph, normally everyone involved is happy. A brand is something bigger than yourself to put your talents behind. It’s a team. If Michelangelo didn’t have Leonardo, Raphael or Donatello no crime would have ever been fought. There would only be a cartoon about eating pizza and skateboarding in a sewer.
