Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Karen Halim @Halimkaren

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I am a working mom living in Bandung City, Indonesia. But I travel quite regularly to different city and countries, or simply go to cute cafes or malls a few times a week.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

Really love to give honest reviews on anything be it products, foods, recommended places, makeup, baby gears, etc.

I post about honest review the most, but there are some lifestyle and travel posts too.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

My UserID is simply my name because at first I just used Instagram for daily updates about food, but then it changed to my daily life when I was studying abroad and this was where people get engage with me the most at that time, and now to review travel lifestyle wedding and mom-baby stuffs.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

Mostyly I shot with my sony Zeiss lens to get the most colors then I edit my photos using lightroom-facetune-picsart-and sometimes adobe

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I really love Tina, a travel blogger from ney york city. Her feed is just awesome, curated with most tiny details.
And I love Christina too, a mom who gives brutally honest reviews. Can’t help but to agree on everything she reviewed because they are so true.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Mmmm what are the most useful challenges now?

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

To give my honest opinion and reach a lot of people who really care to listen to it because I really put my heart and hardwork there.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Make your campaign fun and give some space for creativity. An honest review/ creative marketing by the influencer will attract more people rather than giving them some templates for poses/captions/what to say on their stories and feeds. That works only for giving customers “knowledge” that what you are promoting exists, but did not make them want to check it/ buy it.

I am really concerned about how people will see my credibility so I only give my OWN honest review after I tried the products/services. I am not using other influencer’s caption/pose/review. I wrote my owns. That’s what make my posts authentic and trustworthy.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Quality and originality are extremely important and crucial.

First, be original and true to your content. You will get nowhere on just being a copycat. That’s just sad and you will only be a shadow/piece of someone bigger (someone you copy).

Second, always give a high quality photos / reviews / content to attract people to engage with you. Even if you succeeded in attracting lots of people to follow you, but with low quality content they will unfollow you because people will see the quality / engage with higher quality content they found.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I really like to get something that are “in the trend” and be able to receive them before it goes out of style. Hahahha
