Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Julia McGregor @lostandfoundtraveller

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

Living in Melbourne, Australia, I’m a dreamer, optimist and hopeless romantic I see and feel the world through rose colored glasses (apparently I’m told, that’s a unique perspective). Via photography and my love for writing I create visual stories that encapsulate a feeling. Through this feeling of love, wonder and joy for travel and life I hope to inspire others to see the world as less scary and more exciting, so that they are also empowered to travel.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

Very passionate about Travel and quality lifestyle/experiences that are unique. I post this on Instagram via quality photography (all original work) and writing quality captions.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

After my first solo travel trip at the end of 2013. I realised that once I had grappled with the fear of travelling alone, I “lost” the things that we hold onto and “found” ore important things to value in life through travel. Like moments, memories and experiences. travel teaches us so much about the world, ourselves and others.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

No apps, I just use my iPhone to edit once I’ve taken the photo on my OMD DSLR Olympus

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

They have to go to Switzerland, it is life changing. Oh and I love snap chat too.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

I still find it surreal and an incredible opportunity that people deliberately choose to follow me, thus enabling me an opportunity to speak positively into their lives on a daily/hourly basis. I love that I can empart a piece of the way I see the world and hope that it inspires others, so they can have a more enriched life through travel and experiences.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Whenever I see a brand that appears to have compromised on quality or integrity my interest waines. Society/consumers now days are very educated and fickle. Finding a balance between choosing quality influencers to me is more important than simply whether or not they have a large social following. I see several examples daily of brands that align themselves with influencers that have a huge reach, but produce content that is substandard. As a consumer watching this it makes me question the brand then.
I maintain authenticity by ensuring that I only collaborate with brands that align with the vision of Lost and Found Traveller. Brands that are authentic themselves, that are reputable, that genuinely love travel and enriching other peoples lives with fun experiences. I also love luxury, unique travel and experiences, so for instance a 3star hotel collaboration, whilst it may be “free” will undermine my credibility with my audience.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Your growing audience, and current subscribers follow you because of who you have promoted and advertised yourself to be. You owe it to them and to yourself to maintain quality and originality so that you can stand out in amongst the many other accounts competing for the same audience/opportunities.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I love the opportunity to see, feel, and try something new and unknown. I especially love, the doors that it opens to create fresh content from my perspective, and then to share it with others who may have never heard or known of the brands, or what experiences await.
