Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Jordyn Wiebe @joyfullyjordyn

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I’m Jordyn and I’m a beauty blogger from Calgary, Canada, and I’m also an interior design student through the Interior Design Institute! I love being able to customize my work and school schedules around each other, making my social and family lives practically stress free!

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I love creating instagram posts based on what I blog about, so mostly beauty products, different flat lays of what I’ve been loving and using the most, and different personal updates with inspirational quotes as well.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

My instagram name is also the name of my blog, so it came about when I first created my blog a couple of years ago. Back then I was also sharing my mental health journey after being diagnosed with bipolar, so I wanted a handle that was cheery, positive and uplifting, to draw a multitude of audiences in.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I use a couple of different apps to edit my photos; first I crop and edit the exposure with PS Express, then if it’s a selfie or anything with a white background, I pinpoint adjust the brightness with FaceTune, sometimes I soften my skin with that app as well since it’s an extremely natural soften, then I go into VSCO Cam to adjust the exposure, contrast and saturation, add a signature with Over, and once I’m on instagram itself, I lower the contrast and up the structure to clarify the picture! I love using photo editing as an art form, even though my pictures look extremely natural.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I love following instagram accounts who keep a theme. I believe that themes are important in keeping your audience engaged. I’ve really been digging personal lifestyle accounts, Jillian Harris for example, because she features interior design photos, as well as a sneak peak into her life! Cupcakes and Cashmere is also another beautiful account to follow since Emily posts not only interiors, but beauty products she loves, and lifestyle and personal photos as well. I love accounts that are a mixture of hobbies, business and personal life to make the bloggers much more personable! I aspire to be relatable while also sharing my work, favourite products, etc.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Try working out a theme for your accounts! Not only does it keep a steady look throughout your account, it’s an art form that you can practice with your photography, and it’s aesthetically pleasing for your followers and clientele to look at, making other’s find your page easier. Another thing is using relevant hashtags for your pictures. I see so many bloggers using random and irrelevant hashtags on their photos, such as #model or #like. If you use relevant hashtags that you would most likely search anyway, such as #bblogger for beauty blogger, more people are likely to find your work on the search page.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

I love being an influencer because when people come to me asking what particular products they should be using for their skin tone, skin type, etc. it gives me a sense of confidence and accomplishment when people truly love something that I’ve recommend to them. I’ve helped so many people find ‘holy grail’ products that they haven’t been able to live without, since I’ve recommend it to them, which makes me really happy. I also love trying new things, so I can let people know if they’re worth the price, hype, etc.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Always stay true to yourself in whatever job you’ve gotten with a brand. For lots of people this is a job, and this is how you make money, but as soon as you become “fake” or lie about a product just to get the job, that’s when your followers and audience are going to become uninterested, and in most cases, offended. I would never review products or take a job that would jeopardize my authenticity as a content creator or influencer. My top tip to brands, is to give bloggers and influencers as much freedom as possible when it comes to what you’re suppose to create for them.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

It’s so important to be original in your content because no one is going to trust your recommendation, if you’re constantly posting exact copies of what everyone else is doing. Sponsorships are one thing, and they’re an important part of this industry especially if you want to make this your career, but as long as you’re being honest with your opinions on each product you’re reviewing, and finding different creative ways to feature the products in question, then more people will find your accounts and be impressed with your authenticity. Look at this as your job, you need to put 110% into every post and photo.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I love partnering with brands, especially smaller brands, because I can tell my audience about a brand that I appreciate requesting to work with me, and I’m able to introduce my followers to a great product, and the company is able to share my work with their audience as well. It’s most likely a win/win situation, and it’s fun to work with brands who appreciate the opinions of bloggers and influencers.
