Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Jessica Cheung @Miissjaaycee

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I am a Canadian Born Chinese, my parents came to Canada 25 years ago from Hong Kong. I am currently a student in year 3 at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, in the beautiful city of Vancouver, B.C. I am currently studying Accounting, however, I have a side business of Baking. I make all sorts of desserts, but my main focus is on fondant cakes and cupcakes. My cake shop is called Le Petit Cake Shop (IG : @lepetitcakeshop)

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

Mostly Designers, Food, and travel-related things. I post all three depending what I am doing. I use my main account (@miissjaaycee) as a photo diary for myself, while sharing with everyone else.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

I came up with this ID since I started playing with social media (Facebook first).
My name is Jessica Cheung .. Initals J.C.
I wanted something related to that .. Miss JC , but that was taken so I decided to sound out the “JC” part, which got me JayCee. But that’s an actual name.. so I added an extra “a” and got “JaayCee” . I guess that’s not a very interesting story eh?

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I try to keep my photos authentic. I use a selfie camera called “Meitu” which has a nice beauty mode. But besides from that, just the basic “Aviary” and “Pitu” to get my colours right. I don’t photoshop my legs and face haha, it’s all real!

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

Hmm, I really like the girls : @chrisaliescorners @missjulievu @emilythemermaid @hollyannaeree . Their page is amazing, sharing their everyday things. I also love how they would respond to their followers! I try my best to answer all dms, but for their amount of followers, I like how they still spend time trying to reach out to others.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Hmm, I think one thing is to be yourself . I try to keep my stuff as real as possible. It gets so tiring trying to chase something you’re not. I think people would like you better to be yourself than to be something you’re not.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

I’m not too sure if I’m a huge influencer, but I do get comments and dms here and there. I really like meeting new people and I am a very friendly person. I love it when people reach out to me! I found my passion (cakes) through social media.. so I hope to inspire others in trying out new things to discover their own passions.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

I try to post regularly, even if not on Instagram, on Snapchat or Instagram story. Especially because not everything I do is “Instagram-worthy”, but I still want to post them sownehre (story or snapchat) just so I can still connect with my followers. Posting there shows my everyday routines and etc. Can’t fake that right?

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Like I mentioned before, I don’t photoshop my pictures.. because I’ve experienced it myself. I follow quite a number of fashionistas on Instagram, and I’ve bumped into a few in person.. and sadly, they don’t look CLOSE to what they do in pictures (shorter, or wider, etc). I can’t say I look 100% like my photos, since I do use beauty mode and it beautifys your skin. But that’s it. Sometimes I don’t even see the resemblance of girls in person and Instagram….

So yeah, I try to keep my context authentic.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I haven’t really partnered up with any brands so I don’t know too much about this section. I think it would be fun thing to try!
