Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Jess Yee @Jessyeezus

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

My name is Jess Yee and I am a 16 year old teenager who goes to an average high school in New Jersey. I grew up with a love for fashion and photography. When I was in the third grade I started to take pictures with my friends for fun, but overtime it got more serious. Nowadays I have a schedule for days I shoot pictures with friends. I was also scouted by La Creme Modeling Agency in June, and I model for hair shows, movies, photo shoots, and runways. I currently just finished my pre college classes at parsons school of design in New York City on fashion design. Last fall I I took another fashion design class at the fashion institute of technology, lasting 11 weeks, 3 hours long each from 10am-1pm. The same hours went for Parsons too. I like to have a balance between doing well in school and doing what I love, so I tend to stay on a schedule. I have days where I shoot photos, edit films, draw and design clothing, and do regular schoolwork.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

My interests are fashion, advertising, modeling, photography, beauty, lifestyle and traveling. I tend to post a lot of pictures of myself from photoshoots all around New York City.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

Years ago I used to listen to a lot of Kanye West. His nickname “yeezus” came to my mind one day and I realized that it went along with my last name (Yee).

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

photo-editing routine!
My favorite apps to use for editing are VSCO Cam, Glitché, and Lightroom. I mostly use VSCO Cam and a software on my computer called Adobe Lightroom; I like my pictures to be well done. I usually go into VSCO Cam first, change the brightness, saturation, contrast, temperature and sometimes a filter. If I want to make the picture a bit more styled and unique, I will go into using Glitché. Lastly I use Lightroom for more detailed pictures.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

Fiona Briseño and Alexis Ren are my two favorites at the moment. I’m very inspired by Fiona because she is very expressive on her Instagram, and she shares with the world who she is through clothing and modeling.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Blogging or posting about their life! I think it’s really cool on how you can learn about someone’s lifestyle through their pictures. A lot of people tend to post just selfies or pictures with friends- but I believe they should get out of their comfort zone and post more about their daily life.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

My favorite part about being an influencer is that it sets goals for you: to show or help younger viewers on how they can improve their style, mood, imagination… lots of things. Many of my viewers have confronted me about how I’ve changed their life- from being a suicidal to another happy girl. I deal with clinical depression and anxiety, and I have been through a lot.. but I am happy that what’s happened in the past happened because I wouldn’t be able to give my best advice- and especially because I wouldn’t be the teenage girl I am today.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Don’t just try to find influencers who have thousands or millions of followers- find an influencer that not only looks like they could have major potential, but also wants to help other companies and individuals on the internet. People nowadays do just things for money, and some don’t seem to care about providing support for whom they’re working with. Find someone who will make you’re company even better, someone who puts in time, creativity, love and effort into their pictures and work. I maintain authenticity by keeping up to date with my viewers, replying them back, answering their questions, giving advice, and asking them questions. Overall I maintain it by staying active and being very communicative with my followers, so that they stay interested!

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

It’s not all about the editing apps, the filters, or the $300 editing softwares- it’s about the picture itself. Not just the picture alone, but the story behind it, the meaning or the vibe. The editing softwares and apps are just a plus or add on to improve the quality of how the picture appears!

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I love to partner with brands to meet new people- and I am not just saying it! I have met so many people from brands and clothing lines, and I have become close with some of them. I love working with people: it’s a win win. There’s not much you can lose to saying yes to work with another brand.
