Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Jeradyne @jeradyne

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I am a freelance photographer from Kuala Lumpur and an aspiring content creator. I finished my Certificate of Legal Practice course last year and decided that it was time to finally take that gap year to pursue my hobbies, travel more and try new things and thanks to my understanding parents, I was able to. Unfortunately, I am a big procrastinator so I didn’t do much for a good half a year before I started realising that if I wanted to make something out of my hobby, now is the time. So I started taking Instagram more seriously because one of my biggest hobbies is to capture and create beautiful images, and where better to do it than Instagram, amirite?

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I love all things pretty and that’s what my account is about – making things look pretty. I don’t mind spending a long time arranging things on the table, be it a flatlay done in my house or at a restaurant, as long as the end result is something that I can be proud of. This can be a nuisance for my family and friends though!

Since I’ve been travelling a bit recently, my account has images from my travels as well. I do LOTS of #throwbacks because I’m not very good at keeping up with social media while I’m on holiday. I try though!

And of course, I try to (emphasis on the word “try) make some art sometimes. I’ve been wanting to try watercolour for a long time and after I graduated I finally bought some. I’m not very good at it but i’m happy when I try to make something pretty.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

It’s just my name! When I was 17 my Dad convinced me to change the spelling of my name from “Geraldine” to something more unique so that I can have that same name for all my online accounts, without having to add initials or numbers at the back. It’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, I think. Now I’m “Jeradyne” everywhere!

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I do some fine-tuning on PS Express first, then on to VSCO for filters because that’s what the cool kids use, then Snapseed for final adjustments. I take a LONG time to edit my photos. I’m a bit of a perfectionist and it’s a curse!

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

There are so many! @taramilktea, @lichipan and similar accounts. Their feeds are just full of beautiful images and I’m so drawn to them. I also like @clickthisphoto as she gives tips on how to create flatlays and offers a lot of bts photos too, which I find helpful cause I get a glimpse into what it takes for a beautiful image to be produced.

For more fashion related accounts, I like @dreachong and also @melissackoh.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Doing something creative! I always think of myself as a creative but thought that the lack of education in that area will hinder me and disallow me from going far with my creativity. It’s only recently that I’ve decided that there’s so much that I can learn from the Internet and by putting myself out there more and more, I am learning and improving more and more.

But also, if you haven’t already, try making overnight oats! It tastes so good that I’ve convinced my Dad to eat it for breakfast every morning as well. If you’re not very adventurous, just add milk, raisins, chia seeds, cinnamon, honey and you’re good to go!

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

For me the best part is just to do what I love and being able to feel confident with my work. It sounds so cheesy but it’s really true! I love the idea of collaborating with brands and creating beautiful imagery for them and at the same time, hopefully inspire my followers. Well, that’s the dream anyway!

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Honestly I don’t have much experience with working with brands yet, but I would think that being true to yourself is something important you have to come back to time and time again. Sometimes we’re being bombarded by opinions and put in unfamiliar situations so it is important to step back to have a better look at the big picture and see if whatever you’re doing feels right to you.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

When it comes to Instagram, I don’t think there’s anything more important than quality and original content. I’m obsessed with the quality of pictures and whether things are in focused or not!

As for original content, well, we all get our inspiration from somewhere and there’s definitely a big difference between being inspired by someone and outright copying someone. We all know which of these two is the bad one.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I guess it’s just being able to create something that both the brand and I love and can be proud of. To be able to merge their ideas with mine and create something that represents both of us, I think that’s something pretty great.
