Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Jennifer Ngan @englishbreakfast_t

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, and moved to the SF Bay Area during University and stayed to build my career. Right now, I work as an EA in a fast moving, constantly changing atmosphere in the financial tech industry. During my spare time, I try to ease my day to day life with photography and travel and creative writings on my website.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

My instagram focuses on building people up with daily inspiration and musings from my travels. I want to empower people to be the kind of photographer that focuses more on the experience rather than taking a technical shot. I enjoy photography with a thought-provoking message with literary sadness, and poignant words; the kind that encourages others to think with their heart and spirit. To tell a story of the photo, in an inspirational sense.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

My favorite kind of tea is English Breakfast! I enjoy it every morning. It brings joy to my day, even a simple cup!

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I use Instagram’s editing tools a lot (no filters). I also enjoy using Snapseed by Google, and a Color Story for color blending. If I am using my Macbook, I use a desktop program like Photoscape to edit my photos, give it depth and composition.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I really enjoy designers on Instagram and follow a variety of them. There is no 1 favorite, as I love many of their works. A great source of inspiration for me is street art, Instragram’s feed. If I have to pick, I enjoy accounts that have a curation of beautiful works by people from all over the world.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

This is not new but I seriously love the Instragram stories! I think it provides so much behind the scenes fun for people who engage in Instagram a lot. I love seeing artists show their work or work in progress in live stories. It makes it so much more personal than just the photo and caption itself!

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

My favorite part is receiving emails from people saying how I’ve inspired them to think about certain things in their life because of a post I wrote or something I posted on my blog. I have had 1 person tell me they decided to check themselves into rehab because they realized life was too short to not spend it with their loved ones on a constant basis. It felt amazing to wake up and see that message!

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Make it personal. Make it about you, and how the brand influences you. Accept campaigns that speak to you, and have a message that you want to bring about. I think that is the only way to maintain authenticity to your readers/viewers.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

There is no question that posts should be original and of high quality. Always have an authentic voice and convey a message that you believe, regardless of what others think. What you post is potentially going to affect many people and keeping your content fresh and original makes you stand out more and shine.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I enjoy the collaboration, and the creative talks. I like hearing about the brand’s mission and message to people and their goals. I like being able to tell them my ideas and get feedback. The thought that potentially being able to shape the brand, even just a little, by bouncing ideas, is a great feeling.
