Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Jasmine @aliceandlennon

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I’m an Australian living in New York City with my Canadian husband who is a singer/songwriter. I’m working on my first children’s novel (I love the fantasy genre!) and writing on my blog (aliceandlennon.com) whenever I can! I travel a lot and love to document my favourite places as well as what I’m wearing. I’m also currently working on my first EP because I love to sing as well.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I love fashion, music, film and theatre! But my number one love is writing. I mostly post what I’m wearing and doing in NYC as well as my travels.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

When I was living in Italy in 2010, my beautiful host family were very amused by my quirky taste and personality and the father, Pasquale, observed one day, "You remind me of a cross between Alice in Wonderland and John Lennon." I’ve always loved The Beatles, and classic children’s literature so the comparison stayed with me a long while until one day I thought "Alice and Lennon… Not a bad name for a blog!" I feel the two names represent my two sides — one being a girly, feminine, innocent persona and the other, lazy Rock and Roll with an edge.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I love VSCO because it’s so easy once you get used to it. I also enjoy using Afterlight and PicFX from time to time. I add a grain to all my photos because I prefer everything to look timeless and old — I don’t like anything too shiny or perfect.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I love @paperfashion for artistic inspiration! My favourite fellow Australian is @garypeppergirl and I adore @yasminemei for floral and fashion inspiration. I think @sonyaesman is the coolest and I’m obsessed with all things British — @charlotte_annefiddler @5ftinf @aliceinherpalace are some of my favourites.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Making videos with music — there’s a new app launching soon where you will be able to hire cool, original music for your videos on Instagram stories and feed! I’m so excited. It’s called soundtrak — keep your eyes peeled!

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

I’m a passionate person, so I love sharing beautiful things with the world. I think art is important and someone has to champion it! Art comes in all forms, and fashion and photography is one of them. I also love being inspired by other influencers for the same reason.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

"A thing of beauty is beautiful forever" — that’s why I always look to the past to influence my present. Things that stand the test of time will always be cool and inspiring. Also, don’t compromise on your vision or individuality.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

I think having high standards is so important but it’s also okay to learn and grow as you go — growth involves change! And if you’re too much of a perfectionist you’ll never grow! As for being original, stick to what you love, not what you think people want you to love, because that’s what you will be the best authority on! Stick to your strengths. Passion wins every time.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I LOVE supporting Australian brands, and brands that I actually enjoy wearing/coveting! It’s so cool to have that mutual respect for one another’s aesthetic and art. I love the connection.
