Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Heather @Suitably_Scruffy

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

Hey there! I’m a twenty something country girl who upped sticks 5 years ago to kick it in London. I’m a travel and style blogger who loves messy buns, playing dress up, finding pretty things and eating Mexican food (a new found love since my travels). I’m currently trying to not cry into my pillow as my six month travelling trip is over whilst also being insanely excited to study personal and editorial styling at the London College of Style this Autumn!

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

Travel, interiors, food, beauty and overall style. My posts focus on my style and fashion inspiration with some foodie and nature shots thrown in for good measure.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

It was actually a conversation with my husband as we were walking to work – I joked that I am constantly trying to add my own style to my work wardrobe whilst still being office appropriate, trying to balance that polished look with a little rough round the edges to spice it up. To which he simply replied ‘so you’re trying to be suitably scruffy?’. It stuck as a running theme so seemed the obvious choice when I started the blog!

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I never use Instagram filters as they all seem a bit harsh and didn’t quite have the crispness I wanted. So I use good ole vscocam (playing with C2 and F2 mainly) then do my finer edits in Snapseed.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

Too many!! Lorna Luxe started my obsession with cleaner lines whilst Thrift and Threads inspires my full body and natural poses. I also adore The Fab 3 and Mikutas for their effortlessly cool, edgy shots whilst Vouchalize has me in tears with her hilarious captions!

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

If we’re talking style I would say play with proportions – longline sleeves on blouses, boyfriend fit bomber jackets and quirky yet comfortable flatforms are all on my must have list! If we’re talking food and you’re on that side of the world – get to OzyMex in Byron Bay – their burrito salad almost brought me to tears…

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

Honestly? I didn’t know I was one! I just love exploring style with my own personal take on it and if I influence anyone on the way that’s a bonus. I’d love to think I give someone out there some inspiration, put a smile on their face and share ideas 🙂

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Work with people who truly represent your brand and not just because of the payment. An honest partnership will be much more beneficial for both parties and will be more fun for your followers to be engaged with!

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Okay a bit of truth – the amount of photos which die a death on the cutting room floor is huge! This may seem frustrating and time consuming but if you produce content you are proud of then this will be reflected by your followers. It may take a little more time but step back and really analyse your content before you put it out to the world – if it means you spend a day taking shots and don’t use any of them (yep this has happened to me before) that’s okay! You’ll be happier for it in the long run and so will your followers!

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I will be able to share ideas, create killer content and work with brands I love.
