Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Erika Low @sumopocky

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

HI! I’m Erika, and I’m a baker from Singapore. I specialise in baking macarons with designs. The ingredients are my canvas, the whisk is my paintbrush. Baking is my therapy as it keeps me calm and allows the artist in me to be creative! When I’m not busy in the kitchen, I enjoy traveling and sharing my travel experience and itineraries with others. Sometimes, I create special travel-themed bakes for the location that I am traveling to, like Brighton Bathing Boxes macarons when I visited Melbourne.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I often share my baking creations and recipes on Instagram, Facebook, and Youtube. These include macarons with special designs, macaron cakes (extra large macarons), and macaron towers. I also enjoy experimenting and sharing my other recipes like no-bake cake recipes, no-flour recipes, and no-sugar recipes!

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

I’ve been blogging for many years before I discovered the joys of baking. The name “Sumopocky” came about because I’m a fan of Japanese food and things, and my favourite snack at that time was Pocky (I used to have a box during recess). I decided to keep the name because it sounds cute and catchy, plus is easy to remember.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

My favourite app is VSCO, as they offer a lot of presets. Sometimes, I also edit using Photos on my Macbook. I then use GIMP/Photoshop to add watermarks before posting them online. For videos, I edit using Final Cut Pro.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

Some of my favourite Instagrammers are @dorisgoz and @susanne.decochiffon. I met them at a baking event previously, and we’ve stayed in touch since. They are both very skilled and creative bakers, and we sometimes share tips and baking tricks with each other. In addition, they are very humble and nice people.

6) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

To be given the opportunity to create and inspire others, and to have the platform to share my ideas. I love receiving messages from people regarding baking tips, as I enjoy helping them. It took me many tries to succeed with making macarons, thus I understand their pain whenever a recipe doesn’t turn out as expected. So it always brings me joy to help others in their baking too.

7) What’s your favorite part about StarNgage? Any exciting campaigns that you have joined through StarNgage before?

While I’ve not had the chance to join any campaigns through StarNgage yet, I like that StarNgage provides an easy-to-use platform for advertisers and influencers to connect.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

To choose people who are the best fit for the brand, and who have good engagement with their audience.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

It is very important to create original content that has quality – this means creating content that you are proud to own and post online. It should be something that you would want to see in your newsfeed if you were another person browsing the web.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

Working with brands push me to create even more creative content so as to better engage viewers.
