1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?
For the last two years I have been travelling with my partner throughout Latin America. Prior to this I was a successful eyewear designer in Sydney with a degree in fashion. During our travels we found found ourselves captivated by a small idyllic village in Guatemala, located on the shores of Lake Atitlan. It’s a very spiritual place and we found ourselves deeply exploring our connection to yoga, through regular yoga practice, mediation and many of the workshops offered in town. With my background in design and my partner Luke’s natural eye for beauty and craftsmanship, we had long been admiring the ancient Mayan weaving techniques of the region and really wanted to honour and preserve this vanishing art form. Not only that, but we became integral members of the community we lived in, volunteering at a local nutrition center, where it became intensely clear, the endless struggles that many Guatemalans face everyday. We became passionate about supporting this community, our friends, in a sustainable way and bringing awareness to the importance of conscious shopping, back home.
2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?
We have two components; yoga & wellbeing and promoting sustainability & ethical/conscious shopping, both of which we are really passionate about. Both of these concepts tie in nicely together so we can create a really strong story around the brand.
3) How did your Instagram name come about?
It is simply our business name, which is a Sanskrit word that means “ether” or “space”.
4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!
Squareready, afterlight, eraser. I actually don’t use them very often. I find the editing tools on Instagram are sufficient most of the time.
5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?
I follow a lot of artists to collect content such as prue_stent, mr.babies, pinamarlene, renhangrenhang. And there are a lot of yogi’s and yoga studios that I follow too such as jo.buick, yoke.dalston, creatureyoga, slowyoga
6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?
I’m don’t quite know how to answer this question.
7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?
I like curating beautiful images and quotes and sharing them with people. I often find myself scrolling through Instagram and a post really connects with me in that moment, and I like to think that sometimes our feed has that impact on others.
8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?
It’s important to know who your customer is and what exactly you want to be communicating through your Instagram feed. And this will continue to evolve, it isn’t a stagnant thing.
9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?
I actually don’t post a lot of original content, although this is a focus for the new year. But I do think it is so important to always reference your shared images when you can. It shows respect and a bit of Instagram-love.
10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?
I love that it inspires amazing new ideas!
