1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?
I’m an Oklahoma girl, but I’m settling into my second year as an Angeleno. My first passion is in the arts–I’m a classically trained actress with a deep love for telling stories. My true love, however, was found just over three years ago when I began practicing yoga. Now I’m a soon-to-be-yoga-teacher, a mindfulness blogger and just a chick trying to live a purposeful life.
2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?
My Instagram started as a way to log my practice and connect with people like me, but it didn’t take long to develop a life of its own. Now I host yoga challenges, give daily lifestyle tips via my blog, and try to dole out a little positivity here and there while I’m at it. I’m passionate about partnering with brands and companies with whom I share similar values (like ecological responsibility & sustainability, body positivity, and the importance of giving back).
3) How did your Instagram name come about?
I’ve always been an outdoorsy girl, so it was partly inspired by my constant desire to go outside–outside my apartment, outside the busy city, outside my comfort zone. It was also the train that ran right in front of my apartment when I was in college in Boston. It’s a name that reminds me of home–my nostalgic college home, and my true home in the wilderness.
4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!
I mostly use Afterlight and VSCO. My boyfriend is a photographer and he edits many of my photos on Lightroom. I’m so far from being a photography pro, it’s not even funny. I’d be lost without my guy!
5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?
I love love love Dana (@nolatrees) and Jessamyn (@mynameisjessamyn). Their core values, consistent positivity, realistic outlook on life & general aura of “fuck it, I do what I want” inspires the heck out of me every day.
6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?
Meditation! (The best part about it: it’s free!)
7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?
I love feeling like I’m accomplishing some real good in the world by sharing the truth that I know. I continually hope that people find a way to relate and connect with me from what I share. The greatest gift is to know that I’ve helped someone feel like they’re not alone.
8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?
Always, always, always come from the heart. Everybody knows how to identify a salesman, and nobody likes a salesman. The way to get people on your team is to be true to yourself and to truly believe in what you have to offer. If you wouldn’t buy it, you shouldn’t be selling it. So instead of trying to convince people your stuff is good, live and love your brand, and people will be attracted to that. It’s all about staying true to yourself, and that just can’t be bought. 🙂
9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?
Quality over quantity, always. Oh, and credit the artists that help you along the way!
10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?
I love feeling like I’ve contributed to some real good in the world by partnering with responsible brands. I talk a lot of talk about being an honest and responsible consumer, so the greatest reward is getting to walk the walk with a brand I love!
