Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Edwin Simba @Edwinsmooth

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I was born in Honduras and came to the US at the age of 7. I currently live in NYC, study Marketing Communications in college and have a profound love for photography.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I love to post pictures that may seem ordinary but with a different view. I think we get stagnant as people seeing the same things all the time but we never look at them at different angles or from different perspectives.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

I would always joke with my friends when I was younger about being the smooth talker of the group but in reality I was the most shy. So in part with my Simba character, I “created” another persona to exactly personify that.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I use lightroom as well as snapseed. My editing routine is very sporadic, mostly because it is hard to decide which edit is the best to a picture.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I try to follow big photography pages like @nycprimeshot or @moodygrams to see the creative power of those who are into photography. Sometimes I see pictures of places I’ve taken pictures of but the edit or the angle of the picture is different. This helps me to realize that photography is what you see and the world you see is different from the next person.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Try to do something you have always wanted to and stick to it. People think that when you’re instagram or Twitter famous you just got lucky or its just happens. In reality most of those who are will tell you that hard work and consistency is what got them to where they are now. One thing I can say is that when you’re working towards something you love, it doesn’t feel like work.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

The possibility that I can change ONE person’s life or perspective. I have this internal need to save the world but if I’m able to change the entire world for just one person I know I have done something worth mentioning.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

My biggest tip is to focus on the message of your brand and the look you’re going for. This can help to market better towards future items and can even help when trying to find someone to promote your stuff.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

This is what separates the greats from the fakes. People put their life into what they love, and spend a lot of time making something perfect or as close to it as possible. For someone to take content and portray it as their own is just simply wrong and unethical. If you’re inspired by someone’s work and want to share it, always make sure you say that it’s their work and always tag the artist.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

It’s a win-win situation for both sides. Both sides gain exposure for the brand and have the ability to collaborate ideas. It can also be used as experience for the future when dealing with others in the same situation. The best part about it is knowing that you’ve grown enough as a brand yourself that other brands want to have you partner with them.
