Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: deepa maben @deepamaben

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I’m originally from Bangalore (India) and currently living in Dubai (UAE). My journey as an influencer started because of my sister Divya Maben. While we were living in Canada in 2010 she loved posting look books and writing a blog, and got an amazing response people loved her style and looks. I used to be the one taking her pictures and we had an amazing time creating looks, and people/companies started approaching us to collaborate with them. This is basically how the journey started but then we moved to the UK to pursue our education and weren’t able to continue creating and posting on the blog, but that’s when Instagram became our new venue to share our looks and lifestyle with people who appreciated our content. So now even though we both live in different countries we still love sharing what we love and do on our social media handles.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

The topics of interest are Lifestyle, food, beauty, fashion and pets.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

The apps that I use to edit my photos are snapseed and Lightroom mobile app. Usually start out editing the pics first on snapseed and then use Lightroom to enhance the colors.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

There are quite a number of instagramers that inspire me. @tezza , @meg_legs , @negin_mirsalehi , @lyss

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

The favorite part of being and influencer is trying out various products to see what’s out in the market that best suits my skin/hair concerns, trying out various dishes/ cuisines and sharing it with people of similar tastes.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

My tips to brand would be to actually check the authenticity of influencers. A lot of influencers are buying followers/likes so they need to make sure the influencers they are approaching are genuine people who have a good content and actual followers. I maintain authenticity but staying true to my style and likes but posting what I like/tried!

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

I find that it is important to have a your own original posts that are not sponsored or in collaboration with brands. There should be a balance between paid/sponsored and original content (not sponsored/paid).

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

The part that I like about partnering with brands is that I get to try brands that I haven’t tried before that might be better than some very well known brands. It’s always great knowing what’s out there in the market and what works for me. Also it great to get paid for the time and effort that goes into creating content for the brands (which is only fair).
