1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?
I am from Australia but have lived in South East Asia and was born in Papua New Guinea. I work in the finance and banking sector. I am married and I am a father. Life is good.
2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?
I am a passionate widefield astrophotographer and timelapser. I’m passionate about the skills, the art and the science involved. However I am more passionate about wanting people to see what most of them never see because they don’t stop and look. I truly believe that if more people stopped and just looked up at night every now and then the world might be a different place.
3) How did your Instagram name come about?
In order for me to create the timelapse pieces and capture the images I do I spend many hours and travel many kilometers during the hours that most people are asleep. I go on safari….at night! I also occasionally take others on pre-planned night runs to capture the stars from different angles using different terrestrial props to highlight different perspectives of our galaxy.
4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!
Astrophotography and timelapse both require lots of computing power for full editing however I do use the Adobe Lightroom app for on the spot posts of images transferred via wifi from my camera whilst out shooting. I also use the cyberlink powerdirector app to edit video and already rendered timelapse sequences. I have also used snapseed in the past. The large majority of my editing is PC based before finished timelapse pieces and astro images are transferred to my phone for upload.
5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?
Mark Gee @theartofnight. Mark’s portrayal of our galaxy in his amazing photography/art is what inspired me to learn and his philosophy of just wanting to show people what an amazing show is performed above their heads every night moved me to first see what we as humans on planet earth are a very small part of, and then to want to show this to others.
6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?
Take a milky way photo. Life changing!
7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?
I am amazed at what I see every night I photograph the stars. Having someone look at my work and say Wow! means maybe I opened something up for them. Good feeling
8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?
Be true to what you believe in and share with people the emotions that what you do invoke in yourself.
9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?
Being authentic to your true beliefs is key i feel. I am awestruck by what I see every night. Photo’s are just the medium I have available to show people what they can see too. Be authentic to want to share your product, knowledge, skill etc because you love it and see value in it, not just because you want to sell it.
10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?
It enables me to reach more people with my over riding product which is free, available every night of the year and right outside your house! If I can in turn help companies or individuals to promote products that they back with their emotions then even better.
