Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Antoinette Oguma @antoinette_oguma

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I’m a medical student in the Philippines. I’m a Nigerian from Delta State to be precise. Currently, I am in Nigeria because school has been online for almost a year, due to the pandemic.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I post majorly lifestyle content. Which comprises of my journey in Christ Jesus, in the Philippines, and in medical school).

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

My Instagram name is from my name and surname and I chose to use my name and surname as my brand name across all my social media platforms because my name and surname put together, isn’t common and it has helped to avoid collision with other brands because we don’t share the same or similar names.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

Photoshop lightroom (If I need to edit the color of the photo), Adobe photoshop(If I need to work on facial spots or the background), Photogrid (If I need to grid or collage photos), and Canva (If I need to add written texts or put the photo in a template).

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

@lynnjaphet and @tomike_a are the Instagrammers that inspire me the most by their authenticity and relatability. I trust them to influence a product to me and I could put in my money because I trust them to tell the truth, be it a paid sponsorship or a free post to share a product she just loves. They don’t even know me but I get inspired by them to put in the work that I need to because their story and experience tells me that it does pay to do so.

6) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

Doing what I love (sharing my experiences, what works for me and what doesn’t) and getting paid for it. It’s not always about the payment because it’s sometimes fulfilling when I read my comments on my YouTube channel especially.

7) What’s your favorite part about StarNgage? Any exciting campaigns that you have joined through StarNgage before?

I am yet to work with StarNgage or join any StarNgage campaigns but I would love to do that really soon.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

I maintain authenticity by being honest with my audience and telling them how the products work and I wouldn’t share anything with them based on speculation, I use it first before I share it with them. Also, I don’t work with brands that stand against my moral value and Christian faith (e.g. betting brands).

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Quality is important because that is what would attract people to patronize the brand. So if the video or picture quality is bad, most people wouldn’t even watch or interact with the post. Also, originality is key, avoid too much editing because the post would no longer look real or appealing and it can drop the quality of the post even more. Use at least a good phone with a great camera quality or a good DSLR camera with great lighting techniques.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

The exposure and the experience (I learn from them), getting free stuff (lol), and being paid.
